Fri, 1 May 2009 Introduction: Uniqueness Is Power is all about saving a company's bottom line. One of the things I love about our guest today, Amy Otto, is that she is with a company that will definitely help people save money and improve productivity. Amy is with a company that I would be willing to bet everyone is familiar with, but we're probably not familiar with what she brings to the table for them. The company is AFLAC, and there are a lot of changes going on today in the world of healthcare and wellness. The is a lot of positioning within the marketplace. Welcome to the show, Amy. A lot of AFLAC agents don't have a wellness background like Amy Otto. Some of the changes that AFLAC is making are focused on wellnes programs, which is right up Amy's alley. President Barack Obama announced in March that one of the biggest threats to our nation is the skyrocketing price of healthcare. He said that one out of every six dollars spent in the United States goes for healthcare. AFLAC is taking a unique approach to healthcare by promoting wellness programs. Otto said that in 2006, studies show that $2.1 trillion was spent on healthcare in our country. AFLAC and Otto work with businesses to implement wellness programs called AMPE - Awareness Motivation and Personal Empowerment. AMPE touches employees at least 94 times a year through monthly emailed newsletters, paycheck inserts with healthy tips, breakroom posters, table cards for cafeterias, quarterly health initiatives, lunch-and-learn programs and more. Otto said that AMPE is free of charge for the first year, and that if a company decides that it doesn't want to continue with the wellness program before the one-year trial is over, there are no obligations. If, however, companies realize the benefit of AMPE and want to continue offering it to employees, the cost is $1.25 per employee per month. AMPE also offers incentives to employees who take part in the wellness program. AMPE also offers employees 600 only exercise videos, weekly webcasts and more. Otto said that studies have revealed that employers can save as much as $16 for every $1 invested in wellness programs like AMPE. For more information on AFLAC's wellness program, contact Amy Otto at amyotto@comcast.net or call 404-310-1777.

Fri, 17 April 2009 Introduction summary: E-Factor is an incredible resource for entrepreneurs, from start-ups all the way up to established companies with business of $10 million a year. The first time I saw E-Factor, I was blown away. I wondered how this type of service could be offered, especially in a complimentary fashion like E-Factor does. We have the founder and Chief Technology Officer of E-Factor with us, Marion Freijsen. Welcome to the show, Marion. One of the pillars upon which E-Factor was built is the belief that a successful business venture is going to be much more likely when it is done with someone that you have a personal relationship with. E-Factor is a community that was built by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs. While networking sites like LinkedIn are becoming more popular, Freijsen believes that "LinkedIn is for collectors and E-Factor is for connectors." Freijsen believes that LinkedIn is effective for those who want to make more contacts and check on the status of contacts, but E-Factor is about building trusted relationships that will help a person expand their business, whether it is on a local or global level. E-Factor is now in 134 countries and has just under 750,000 members. E-Factor helps put entrepreneurs in touch with people who can guide them to prepare their best sales pitch for their company, write an effective business plan and secure financing and funding. One of the core beliefs that Freijsen has with E-Factor is that people wil invest in a business because they trust and like a person and believe that they will deliver the best results possible. She said that investors don't necessarily simply look for the best business model, but that they want to invest in people. To get started on E-Factor, all someone has to do is visit www.efactor.com and answer about six profile questions. Freijsen said that there is a free membership level and four others that range from $15 to $99.50 a month. No matter which level of membership a person chooses, Freijsen said that E-Factor is designed to help entrepreneurs cut costs, raise financing and grow their business. Comments[59] |

Thu, 26 March 2009 Tim O'Connor, EVP Campaign Mojo With the economy getting worse all the time, or at least people's perception of it getting worse, businesses feel the need to cut costs. It often seems like the first area they cut is Marketing and sales, the things that bring them revenue so they can have a business. Campaign Mojo is a software development company that created a platform to allow businesses to create, launch and track all of their Marketing programs. Through a single login, clients can create and manage Marketing campaigns - direct mail, email, banner ads, newsletters and more - in which all of the elements match up as far as look, feel and design. Campaign Mojo provides clients with simple, yet detailed tracking information on these Marketing campaigns so they know exactly where responses are coming from. Because users log in from one place and everything is tracked from one place, it allows them to only invest in Marketing efforts that actually produce results. With Campaign Mojo, these Marketing campaigns can be launched in minutes or hours as opposed to weeks and months that previous Marketing programs required. The more elements that a campaign has, the more time it will take to create and launch, but it is still a quick turnaround. Campaign Mojo can build your website for you and then create, manage and track various Marketing campaigns. If, however, you have a successful website, Campaign Mojo can implement a URL into its system that will closely mirror your domain name. That URL would then host all of the Marketing programs and track the results. Campaign Mojo offers a demo that will walk you through the program and all it has to offer your business. There is a one-time start-up cost for Campaign Mojo of $599, and then there are programs that range from $99 to $500 a month, depending on their complexity. For more information about how Campaign Mojo can help you grow your business, call 800-481-4319 or visit www.campaignmojo.com.

Fri, 6 February 2009 ![]() In today's Uniqueness is Power, we interview entreprenuer Charles Fellingham about the Purple Podium - an intensive, interactive, dynamic and intimate public and political (non-partisan) speaking seminar. This two day workshop prepares the elite partipants for the rigors of speaking in today's environment to succeed in both the political arena and public eye. Materials draw from the best examples of both what to do, and what not to do. Participants take part in immersive training that helps them learn to win over constituents, handle opponents and build a brand and online presence others will covet. Each member will be videotaped and critiqued; materials will be available for review under private passwords. This provides a significant difference from other speaking seminars in the intensity, the interaction and the focus on style and delivery, the backbone behind substance. Participants are engaged in a wide scope of activities to learn how to handle press, interviews, debates, rope lines and more. Check out www.thepurplepodium.com or Google Charles Fellingham for more information. Comments[47] |
Fri, 6 February 2009 ![]() Having been a part of non-profits for all her life, when the chance came along to help with an incredible fundraiser, Kathy Greider was excited. Sporting two programs that allow non profits to gain exposure and raise significant funds through relatively little work, when compared to other fundraisers, she knew she had to share it with others. First, there is the matching program – which works something like the Premium program in Public TV. Donors make a pledge of $100, $150, $300 or $500 and gain back an equal value rebate certificate for gas or groceries. “One of the reasons we like this so much, is it focuses on the two things people need, even, or perhaps especially, in a down economy,” says Kathy. Next, there is the Faith Promise Campaign – where church parishioners pledge a one time $50 donation. They are given 1x$500 gas and 1x$500 grocery certificate. They register and send in the receipts and vouchers each month as directed – and when they gain their $50 back each month (one $25 gas, one $25 grocery) – they turn around and pen a check to the church for that amount. “Donations with ‘found money’ make sense – all you’re asking is for your church member to do a tiny bit of legwork each month,” says Kathy. The beauty of both these programs is that in either, there is a capability to raise funds, while giving back or at least not taking away. In a world where charity and giving are decreasing due to the down economy, it is important to reward those who help you. Also, these programs drive “word of mouth” spread like wildfire within customer and donor bases. Call Kathy to find out more at 404 313 8208 or Google her for more info. Comments[45] |
Fri, 6 February 2009 ![]() Brainstorming ideas is easy (relatively.) It is finding the ones that work and will be accepted and acted on that is hard. Yet, somehow, Mike Wittenstein always delivers. His ability to spot patterns, trends and ruts, even – and help people sidestep obstacles to success, concentrate on who is the core end user and target, and then storm ideas until he finds the one that will work in the given situation is unparralelled in my experience. Listen in. Mike is brilliant, yet humble. Insightful yet down to earth. Able to see things most other people miss. Bizvoiyant (as in clairvoyant about business.) The ideal “Entrepreneur’s Merlin” at the round table of business. Yeah, I know, hefty praise. But you know what – he lives up to it. And as my coach used to say, it’s not arrogant if you can back it up – it’s called swagger. So, Mike has swagger…REALLY big swagger. You can Google him to find out more and see his video at www.mikewittenstein.com. Mike is available for prices between $2,000 and $12,000 for the day. You get a new outlook on your business you often can’t find yourself. It may be hard to comprehend, but having experienced it myself, I know that in one hour or two – Mike can transform your reality to a new way of being that really delivers those “million dollar ideas” – which are the big ideas that can be acted on – and will be accepted and implemented without fading out. At the upper end of his range, he does speaking, consulting and education as a combo package. You’ll never have spent better money. Period. Comments[49] |
Thu, 29 January 2009 ![]() Is it too much to “want it all?” Sometimes you can get both what you want and what you need – take THAT Mick Jagger! On this week’s Uniqueness is Power, your business growth solutions show, we interview John Lehmberg, owner of MakeItLoudSites.com – an amazing DIY website creation tool for those who want more than a generic solution, need functionality and flexibility, need hosting and content management (ability to make your own edits) and want it all for a reasonable price. Now, that sounds pretty good, right? But how much do you have to know about web design? Can you use programs like Microsoft Word? You’re ok here. But wait - you also don’t want something that looks like a cookie cutter creation, right? What if you could have a scalable solution, which could change layout, colors, fonts and more with less than an hour’s work? What is you could create ads for each page, or use content rotators and stylish elements to design your own site? – again and again. Oh wait, of course, you want marketing and SEO. Well, believe it or not, you have some of that built into the basic membership and some of it comes extra – but still, it is available. Hmmm, oh wait, I know – you want customer service. How about a staff, included the owner, who answers calls promptly and courteously, who works to make life easy and who is always willing to go above and beyond (heck, he even agreed to this interview.) Tune in and find out more about the tool that could make your new business soar, your old business re-align or your former bad web experiences seem like the distant past. ========== This week's show is brought to you by QAlias and Grocery and Gas Today, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 22 January 2009 ![]() To open the show, we discuss how, in the current economy, people have a real opportunity to taste success. However, that doesn’t mean to just whip out a letter, stick a stamp on it and expect great things. Listen in as we give you the vital tips to both creating and launching an excellent marketing letter – and subsequent campaign of many touches. Our guest, Ruth King, of Profitability Channel and Ribbon, joined us – and to start, jumped in on the opening topic of marketing materials and letters. Thu, 15 January 2009 ![]() As always, on Uniqueness is Power, we have a heavy hitting lineup of information ready for you. Lee and Andy open the show by addressing how the current marketplace can make you a fortune if you approach it the right way and with the right attitude. As much as there are businesses in trouble, there are also plenty of businesses succeeding. That 7.5% Unemployment rate? How about the positive converse – the 92.5% EMPLOYMENT rate? We talk good business and common sense about how to move forward in these times where many will fail. If you want your business to succeed in 2009 and beyond, take a listen to the opening of this show – you may find some encouragement, frank and honest assistance and more that help you rise above and grow beyond the tough time. You can’t sit on the sideline, waiting for a sign the recession is over. Our guest, Barb Giamanco of Talent Builders is a seasoned professional in talent building and getting hiring right the first time. Join us as we discuss how the current job pool makes things both easier and tougher for the recruiters and the applicants. Get down to earth with solid advice on what to look for, what to keep in mind and how to find the job you really both want and deserve. “It has to be right for you and for them,” says Giamanco, to applicants. “I see people giving into a fear mentality and throwing their resume at anything to see if it will stick.” Simply put, says Giamanco, “that won’t end well, and you may derail your career path. Have a plan.” We also cover how to handle networking, why you should always build your network, and how to plan to make sure a sudden “disengagement” with your company doesn’t cost you. Tune in next week as we speak with Ruth King, from On the Ribbon and the Profitability Channel.

Thu, 8 January 2009 ![]() Can you imagine being able to refill your ink cartridges on your home printer for about $1 each? If you’re one of the hundred million people who help put $1.3 billion printer cartridges in landfills, and then pay $25 or more per cartridge at Costco, thinking you’re getting a good deal, we’d like to introduce you to Lenny Greene, serial entrepreneur, founder of AccuBrite, sharp wit and supreme business mind who was our guest this week, on Uniqueness is Power, your business growth solution show. He has a solution that saves both your pocketbook and the landfill. The last time we had Lenny on, his kits were running just under $200 and were the best deal going. Now, they have gotten even less expensive and the company has more to offer. The main kit runs just south of $30 and refills work like this – the ink is free, but there is shipping and handling, of $6.95 per bottle. Sounds expensive? Consider this – one bottle of ink will refill between 4-5 cartridges or more. Remember those cartridges you were paying $30-50 for in many cases at “office supply” stores or “discount clubs?” As they say in Lenny’s native Brooklyn, “fuh-ged-aboud-it.” One other thing you don’t have to worry about – is if you, too, can work with this kit. Set up with very detailed, easy to follow instructions, filling stations to eliminate mess, and specially designed tips on the bottles to eliminate spills – you have a refill station that is mobile and easy to use. Doubtful – check out these testimonials. And, having been a customer of Lenny’s for 18 months, I”ll give one - I estimate he has saved me $700 or more in ink refill money - and we’ve put far less cartridges in the landfill, as well. Tune in next week when we interview Barb Giamanco, about the inherent issues in hiring, even with such a huge pool to choose from – how do you pick the best candidates? === This week's show is brought to you by QAlias and Grocery and Gas Today, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor.Uniqueness is Power is a marketing and business growth show, broadcast live Thursdays 6-7pm eastern, and downloadable by podcast, or RSS Feed. Thu, 7 August 2008 ![]() From picking the right back up system for your photo archives, to picking up tips on naming your website, picking and url and finding more customers, we cover a ton of ground in this show. Join Andy Greider and Lee Kantor for this edition of Uniqueness is Power, your Business Growth Solutions show – where we interview Kevin Ames and Roger Kealey. Starting the show, we talk about the importance of picking a good domain name. Yes, we know most of the best ones are taken. However, there are guidelines to follow to help you get the best ones you still can. First and foremost – if you don’t already have one – get one today. You need a web address and site in today’s internet driven world – it’s about credibility. But before you grab that domain – listen in – and we’ll teach you the best ways to pick a great one. Our author, (new) blogger, speaker AND Business Booster this week was Kevin Ames (www.amesphoto.com) – a name known to those in the upper echelons of photography and Photoshop for his professional execution and teaching. Kevin joined us to discuss his books, his videos, his classes and provide an amazing amount of tips to everyone from the small business owner who needs a few great shots – to the shutter bug who is taking family photos. From backing up the files to teaching people to become better (and have more fun) at the elemental pieces of making a better photo – you get gain from a pro on how to improve many aspects of what you may have the equipment to do, but not the knowledge. Be sure to listen in to our Unique of the Week (www.freegasmonthly.com), if the down economy is hurting your business – because Roger Kealey shows you how to make the grey skies blue – and bring the customers streaming back in. When you think of why people buy – it is done from emotion, backed by logic. So, the proposition of free gas certificates that Roger proposes is one that is amazing…because it addresses the biggest emotional hot button out there (the price of gas) and backs it with a logical premise for vendors and customers. For instance – if a hotel told me I could get $300 in free gas for spending the weekend – I’d likely want to – 1. Because it’s $300 in something I need on something that is an emotional point for me, and 2. Because it won’t cost me $300 for the weekend or only slightly more. I break even – or slightly under – for having a fun weekend. For the vendor – they only pay about $15 for the certificate – and gain two nights occupancy on an otherwise open room. Win – Win – Win. Tune in to find out how the program works – or give Roger a call or email and let him know you want to hear from him. 404 932 7811. == This week's show is brought to you by QAlias, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Fri, 1 August 2008 ![]() With the launch of Andy’s new company, Marketing Pedagogy – he had to come up with a logo – and quick. Using the very cool tools found in this article – “A logo, 500 Business Cards and Lots of Fun for Under $100” he built the new logo for his company, leveraging along the way the support of his friends, professional peers and others to help find the logo with the most appeal. The logo cost $49. The color palettes were free – and the business cards were less than $50. What a deal! Check it out in action – here! Next up, we had on Business Booster, Brad Gasaway, VP of Marketing for Namifiers (www.namifiers.com). From name tags that look amazing to rugged personalized attaches and backpacks, these guys have it going on in the promotional products business. They not only treat the customer very differently than the rest of the industry (no is like a four letter word in the offices) – they also apply that culture internally and have subscribed to a Good to Great model for building the right team to do the jobs needed. Be sure to check them out and see what they can do to assist you with your needs today! www.namifiers.com How many times have you either lost your connection or closed a browser window before you finished a sale? If you’re like most people, it has happened far more than once. Now, how often do you go back to complete that sale? Again, if you’re like most of us, people return far less often than the site would like for sure. As our Unique of Week, we had on with us the dynamic duo from interactive sales saving chat tool, UpSellIt (www.upsellit.com) – CEO Gelnn Russell and CTO Chris Wampler. Deploying this amazing tool on your website can save between 7-20% of sales that would have otherwise exited. And it isn’t obnoxious – in fact, it is kind of fun. Utilizing a tool that appears just after a sale is exited (which isn’t popup blockable) – a chat operator (Jenny, Susan and others are names) – pops up and begins a dialogue, trying to save the sale. With realtime monitoring, if it is going poorly, vendors know and can work to change the scripting or delivery. From there, once the sale is completed, the helpful Jenny can offer upsell or cross sell propositions as well. Seeing it in action helps, so check out the demo on the site. She can catapult you into the birds nest for networking – taking you right to the top of her vaunted network of trusted colleagues. For a fee, she arranges events, special meetings, parties and more. Be sure to tune in for details of how Susan weaves her magic – and connect with her today to grow your business. Perhaps you’re a woman business owner who feels like she doesn’t want to be part of the “good old boy” network? Who wants to support other women in business? Who wants to do it without a once a week, or even once a month commitment. Have you ever felt strangled by the regulations of most of the opportunities out there? That you weren’t getting what you needed? Then be sure to listen in as Bonnie Ross Parker details the best kept secret in networking groups for women. She’s aiming to make it the best revelation for women ever – and that is the Joy Of Connecting. Thu, 3 July 2008 ![]() Amazing guests! Superb information to grow your business is tough times! Unique ideas! We bring it all to you, on Uniqueness is Power, your Business Growth Solutions show. Right into the show we dove, with the founders of Strategy Magazine – a great new resource for the discerning professional who doesn’t have time for a stack of news to pile through – but still needs to stay abreast of each aspect of their business category. Broken into 8 disciplines, Strategy delivers a concise, holistic business synopsis to the actionable business professional. The print magazine is on introductory pricing at $19.95 – and you should sign up for an account online today. Next, we move from magazines, to books – where we pick up with Kim Boim, of WWAOW, the WorldWide Association of Writers. Kim started out by describing how, anyone with a book in them, can now be published – AND pick up 5 copies of their book, for $80. Yes, $80. They give you the shipping, handling, and distribution channel as part of the deal – and you get the word out. One of the coolest features we thought, was that hardcovers cost only about $2/copy more than softcovers – and that you can be up and running in about 90 seconds, assuming you have a pdf’d and formatted version of your book ready. In addition, WWAOW has arms and legs in the corporate and government manual, employee handbook, etc realm – and they are backed by Peleman, a company with nearly 8 decades of binding experience. Finally, I love WWAOW because they use steel binding on the hardcovers, and that makes it darn near impossible to lose pages or have binding breaks. Gosh, the Long Tail model lives again! Finally, we spoke with Craig VanPelt of PlantMakers – who is someone who can truly grow your business (and your position in the marketplace!) with his new GoGreen Program for hotels. Can you imagine being able to offer a live plant in every room – and make it not only a marketing position, but also a profit center? Maybe it is hard to believe, but that is what Plantmakers brings to the table – or the counter or vanity or dressertop – in each of your hotel rooms. Using the coveted Milennial Soil, this program allows hotel owners to “go green” with no mess, little added labor – and helps them sell more than sleep. We are fortunate to have Craig back on the show, where he had spoken about how restaurants can also benefit. Be sure to check in with him and see how he can assist you and your hotel or restaurant – and as always, please let our guests know you heard about here, on Uniqueness is Power. Thanks! == This week's show is brought to you by QAlias - with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 26 June 2008 ![]() Amazing guests! Superb information to grow your business is tough times! Unique ideas! We bring it all to you, on Uniqueness is Power, your Business Growth Solutions show. This week Lee and Andy ponder which political party is best for small businesses – and you might be surprised with the answers and results to the research. Be sure to go to the World’s Smallest Political Quiz to find out how your values match your support before you listen in. Second on the show was Jason Syzdek, who helped small business owners understand how to properly set expectations with regards to the marketing they are beginning. Syzdek covered how most businesses miss the most unique part of word of mouth marketing – actually executing the plan. Using amusing examples coupled with poignant information, Syzdek (a second time guest), really helps us understand how we can all benefit from using word of mouth and viral marketing properly – and shows how to implement the tricks of the trade. He can help you from his company, Jaymunda! Our third guest (who appears in an inserted format this week) was Stephen Jones, of Growth Strategies – back to talk more about his amazing tool, Executive Briefings. His success since we last had him on prompted a quick return visit to go over some other aspects of this amazing door opening sales tool – a third party commissioned presentation designed to attract your target audience and educate them, not sell them, on your products and services. By sharing pertinent industry information with the potential clients, they are alerted to why they need to pay attention to your offering today. This greatly increases odds of both setting the first appointment and also of landing the business overall. Be sure to check it out – and tell Stephen we sent ya. Thu, 19 June 2008 ![]() To learn more about how to effectively position yourself online, hear how the internet has changed media delivery, use video and walk-on-the-web technology and to hear an inspiring tale of entrepreneurial success – listen in to today’s show – just download the mp3 and listen along as we help you grow your business. Lee and Andy begin by discussing the different elements that have really changed media delivery online. From new online tv stations to podcasting, and purl (direct mail drives online) to online resumes, there is a lot to ponder. Get an unique perspective as we delve into this world today. Next up, be sure to listen closely as the Video Bishop, C Ranaldo Weaver takes us on a learning journey regarding online video, flash website creation and the tricks of the trade. If you want video on your website, or are seeking a walk on the web plug in….this is the man to pay attention to. From there, we spoke with Nina Frye about LTD Chix (and Andy embarrasses himself, forgetting that LTD stands for Living the Dream, not Limited…) And it stands to reason that is the abbreviation, as this company is having pretty much unlimited success…with 12 designs illustrated to parlay the working Mom into a perhaps overtaxed, but still smiling caricature – these are immensely popular shirts. Starting at a local festival and growing rapidly from there, Frye and her partner Cindi Schmitzer have really taken this from a fledgling startup to something with serious potential. Listen in if you think you want to start something up for some inspiration! And for crying out loud - order a shirt for a Mom you know! Thu, 12 June 2008 ![]() For a sales show that will bring you the best in how to choose an affiliate program and software to great resources like Sales Gravy and Salesconx, be sure to join Andy Greider and Lee Kantor as we help you grow your business, and increase your personal brand! Lee and Andy begin by exploring the two different main mindsets of the affiliate program pantheon – that of high traffic push to the other side of high personal touch pull. Each have solutions targeted to their ends, and each have different ways in which they succeed. Tune in to hear more – and also learn how to recognize elements that make up a strong program if you want to join one. Want to learn more about sales? How about being able to learn from the best tutors out there? How about being able to do this for the cost of a smile? (as in free….) Our Business Booster this week was Jeb Blount, founder and CEO of Sales Gravy, where they treat salespeople like the elite athletes of the business world. Jeb is full of great ideas, and this two year old site may be the only resource we’ve seen with so much to offer you as a salesperson (and let’s face it, we’re ALL in sales of some sort.) Jeb shares plenty of tips and ideas while he shares the most popular features of the community they are developing. Come post a job for free, or apply – but do it soon, as the potential for this becoming a paid service increase each day. Check out cool podcasts, read awesome articles and learn from top experts – all as part of your free membership. Jeb is reachable – and answers both his phone and his email. How would you like to stop fruitlessly spending money on Google AdWords for keywords that don’t convert? How would you like strong leads EACH time you pay money? Our Unique of the Week was Evan Sohn of Salesconx – a very interesting and strong compliment to Sales Gravy. Wherein Sales Gravy is a resource laden site, Salesconx is where connections make you money – and warm up the sales process. You can both buy and sell leads on the site, and your account manager is there to help you work through the process. When you offer to pay someone for a lead, there are three stages. The first is the initial lead offer – say for $25. Then the money is held in limbo while you certify the veracity of the lead. Then there is the “success fee” – often a one time fee that is a percentage of the closed new business from that lead. Let’s say it is $500 – at 10% of a $5000 deal. For providing this service and the assistance, Salesconx takes a 20% processing fee (making them a profit of $105 on that full transaction – very fair all in all….listen in as Evan compares this with a typical Google AdWord effort….) Be sure to tune in next week as we go digital with the Video Bishop, C Ranaldo Weaver, and speak with the magnate of hip and cool clothing, Ltd Chix.

Thu, 5 June 2008 ![]() Another show chock full of great information and guests - Join Andy Greider and Lee Kantor as we help you grow your business, and increase your personal brand! From hairapy to business therapy to family memories – we have it all in this episode of Uniqueness is Power, your Business Growth Solutions show. We began things with Aura Mae, author of Get Some Hairapy, who is the quintessential therapist, hairipist and social diva of Do you have a co-worker who you don’t gel with? A boss you can’t understand? Feel left out or behind in company functions? Perhaps the team just needs some work – and our next guest is the leader in doing so, while making everyone smile and learn at the same time. Brownell Landrum is with Draw Success, a company that was founded out of necessity (and maybe a little pain, as well.) Landrum worked for a few large corporations and in the last one had the team that put the dys in dysfunction. Her work thereafter was to create a game, partially based in Disc-Jungian psychology, partially based in experience, and partially based in having some fun! If you are in management and know your team needs some help – or suspect there may be some underlying quiet issues, connect with Brownell at brownell@drawsuccess.com Who has gone to the family reunion only to find they no longer remembered everyone? Or they hadn’t kept up as well as they’d have liked after seeing the relatives you thought you didn’t like? Or found a relative who was doing something really cool, if only you’d known? Well, as a part of those types of experiences, and after a youth of experiencing good stories, increased relations and more around the kitchen table of familial relations, Dean Roy decided he wanted to bring families together online, in a secured social environment. Set up so there is no way to invite people outside your family – or to have them find you – this network, ShareFam, is free to access and set up and allows you to stay in touch. One of our favorite features was the story section and the news section – allowing you to continue those late night chats that evolve after Thanksgiving cleanup, or those that grow out of setting up a surprise birthday for Auntie Grace’s 90th – be sure to drop by and sign up today. == This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White (marketing, business and technology consulting experts), with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 29 May 2008 ![]() Our jam packed sales special is here to end May - with the Trigger Event Expert, Craig Elias. We’ve got a show jam packed with great information and a powerhouse guest - join Andy “Google Me” Greider and Lee Kantor as we help you grow your business, learn how to sell and when to sell - and increase your personal brand! Since we were young in business, in fact, many times even before business – we’ve all been told “There’s no silver bullet to success.” Today’s guest, Craig Elias, feels differently. To him, there’s a panacea, a magic elixir, and silver bullet – and it begins with timing. To learn more about Shift Selling, and what the rage is all about - be sure to download now - right click the little pod icon next to the title of the blog. Save target as - and then listen in your favorite media player. “Catching the customer when they are at the right point, in the right frame of mind is the key to the timing,” says Elias. Ok, so that sounds like common sense. How about if we tell you he shows you how to find those customers? – to tell who they are - and how to work with them while they are in the window of dissatisfaction – helping you become the emotional favorite – and placing you in the game before selective perception takes over. If all those terms italicized above seem foreign to you – be sure to download the show – you’ll learn a ton of great info. In fact, Craig was on fire during this interview and he spun Lee and my head around. If you want a full day’s seminar of material in less than 45 minutes, take the time to download this show and listen. And then go to Craig’s signup page to gain his first chapter of the new book he’s working on when it is ready. As we mention on the show all the time, Google has become a verb – and name googling and personal branding (online especially) have become almost synonymous. Google is a part of our culture and our experiences daily. Jim Killeen saw an opportunity to create a movie that showed that while there are many different things that make up a “Jim Killeen? – there are far more similarities and positive associations than differences. The human condition sometimes keeps us from remembering that. Interviewing a total of 7 Jim Killeen’s with 30 predetermined (but not shared) questions, the experience is one you have listen in to hear (download this show), or watch (see links below) to see. Full of humility, quiet confidence and a personality that lends quite well to this project, Jim Killeen is a true pioneer of the new facets of how we all find out about each other. Google Me the Movie is available for purchase on DVD, and for a limited time, is available in full on YouTube. To say Jim found himself, may be an understatement – as he truly found something much bigger – something we’re all seeking – which is an answer to the question “why are we who we are?? Be sure to check out this interview with Stu Lustman of Southern Lending Solutions - and find out about 2-3 year leases on technology equipment, 3-5 year financing on other technology, even true medical office loans. As a VAR or OEM style shop, you can also gain from the best financing deals available for your clients. Stu is a top customer service provider and also does factoring, credit card processing and equipment leasing. His knowledge of this new niche is truly exceptional. You don’t want to miss talking to Stu if you have a technology need to finance in your business…no need to spend all the cash upfront and get stuck with equipment you have to completely replace in 3 years. Our Unique of the Week was Dr. Dan Gottlieb of Gottlieb Vision Group. If you have a child suffering in school, learning to read, or paying attention - and you’ve been told “there’s nothing more we can do? – take the time to call Dr. Gottlieb ((404) 296-6000). Host Andy Greider has personally seen small miracles occur for both his children while working with Dr. Gottlieb and his team of vision therapists. Internationally renowned for his approach and results, Dr. Gottlieb covers the things to look for to know if you should make a call to his office. From covering one eye while reading to sitting right in front of the tv, to squinting, to frustration in the classroom – there are plenty of warning signs. Almost all learning disabilities are tied to a visual challenge, and there are always things that can be done. If your child has been diagnosed with ADD, ADHD or just seems to have reading challenges, it is a fairly easy thing to correct and rectify at young ages. Within a few weeks, differences are noticeable – within a few months, differences are often dramatic. Be sure to tune in next week when we speak to Josh Felix about his new publication Kenzie, to Wendy Weiss, the Queen of Cold Calling and to Tom Linkous with SportsWar….and maybe even get a quick call in from Final Four prognosticator, Lee Miller. == This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White (marketing, business and technology consulting experts), with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 20 March 2008 ![]() We began the show, looking at “how to find an intern? – exploring the pros and cons, and suggesting resources for our small – smedium and medium sized business owners to leverage to find the best of the best for the summer or evenings test. Lee has had a copious amount of intern ups and downs – right now we love our intern! We welcome your questions and hope to hear from you. Did you know that by simply organizing your clutter in both home and business, you can save yourself over 1 hour a day? What if that was an extra hour to spend with the kids, to relax or to even be more productive? Our Business Booster was Laura Ray with Laura Ray Organizing, and she helps small business owners, home business mavens and home owners organize and streamline. Asking “what do you use? And what do you love?? she begins the weeding process, something that she says takes 12-20 hours on average, and sometime leaves a little homework for the clients as well. However, the savings are evident immediately, in time, in cleared minds, and in increased efficacy and efficiency. Be sure to drop her a line, as she is the right person to help you take the steps you’ve been avoiding in business and personal organization. Ever considered creating a tv ad – and then placing it on cable or local networks? If you’re like most small – medium sized businesses, you’ve done one of three things – (1) considered it, and dropped it when you saw production costs, (2) were willing to compromise some production value, but still couldn’t afford enough frequency to effect changes, or (3) skimped on quality, and didn’t place enough valume, and lost on all counts – hemorrhaging money on a commercial that tanked. What if you could get the best of all worlds? Sometimes, if it sounds to good to be true, it’s a Uniqueness is Power, Unique of the Week! And that’s our guest today, Spotrunner, and Eric Williams. Working with the theory that the internet has commoditized many entities and services that before had no common denominator, the folks at Spotrunner, Nick Grouf and David Waxman, formed the company to level the playing field. For around $500 you lease the footage, own exclusivity in your broadcast area and can customize the commercial. In addition, you get to buy targeted demographic cable grabs, and for about 1/5 to 1/10 of the cost of the footage alone, you gain a 2 month trial run to ascertain how you want to proceed. This change in delivery and slashing of upfront costs makes Spotrunner an attractive option for those who want to consider TV, but felt they could not afford it. Please connect with Eric for more info on SpotRunner and SpotRunner Custom (where there are more facets offered.) == This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White (marketing, business and technology consulting experts), with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 13 March 2008 ![]() Today it was the “double Lee? show – co-host Lee and guest Lee. For the first 20 minutes, Lee (co-host) and I discussed how to improve your blog, your internet presence and your search engine rankings. We covered 17 tips and more that will help you with your online marketing. Our guest, Lee Miller, is a very unique fella, with an even more unique company – Elite Hoops Basketball/NIKE Sports Camps. Be sure to check out his summer camps; you’ll be learning from Wooden pyramid of success system, Jim Harrick trained instructor, Lee Miller. With an intense schedule that spans the summer months, Lee works with kids 8-14 on basketball skills, agility and of course, hoop-ing it up as well. However, unlike many camps, there is a lot more than just organized games each day. With sponsors like Nike and SPARQ - he uses top level equipment and processes to help players progress with everything from movement to shooting to ball handling. Not surprisingly, he says ball handling is the easiest area to see marked improvement in the camps. Whereas shooting takes all elements of co-ordination, plus the relearning and erasing of bad habits, ball handling usually is more about concentration and agility – and is easier to correct. Be sure to check out his camps, held across the Southeast, or connect with him to ask questions. == This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White (marketing, business and technology consulting experts), with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 6 March 2008 From private labeling at the top of Google, to niche social and business networking, using realtors as the focal point, we covered a lot of ground in our show today.
We started out the show talking about the new things we have cooking – Lee’s new Mastermind/Business Advisory Board, and Andy’s new connections for the radio show, in the form of upcoming guests.
Then we began talking about article marketing and how it works and why. Simply put, the search engines love fresh content, they love keyword rich resources, and they like relevant information that connects with other sites. Writing articles can happen pretty quickly – usually 30-60 minutes for a one page wonder – and you can submit it to the search engines easily…through article directories. But we show you how to turn that one article into hundreds and then how to leverage that to the hundreds of engines – multiplying your work in a way you never thought possible. This new software eliminates the issues Google and Yahoo have with duplicate content – and make your life as a writer SO much simpler. They also show you how to climb the organic rankings and position yourself as an expert, while potentially gaining autoresponder driven signups for your newsletter, ezine, bulletin, or other vehicle for consumer connections.
Scott Forcino of ProRealEstateCity.com joined us to discuss his unique vision for a localized online networking community, centered around, but not exlusive to the real estate industry. Allowing agents to position themselves in local community online settings, he helps agents build a bevy of vetted resources, allowing others access to their most coveted and valued partners. With options that allow a free look, this is a service worth checking out if you are in real estate.
Next up was Charles Fellingham, founder of qAlias – a guest in prior episodes, but with plenty of new things happening, which we wanted to update you, our listeners, about. Check out the new website they have up about private label branding – allowing employees to enhance their personal brand while the company protects the overarching online brand. For the next 90 days, the private label branding is the same price - $9.95/person/month – as the regular service. It will likely increase to $14.95 once the pilot period ends.
This is a powerful way to make sure that what people find – and read first about your employees – is what the company wants them to see. Fellingham explained how much of a liability in some cases and helping hand in others, the internet can be these days. qAlias has grown a great deal since we last saw them, and are getting ready to just take off in the coming weeks and months. Drop them a line to ask about private label services - or just sign up with them and advance your own name and brand today.

Thu, 28 February 2008 ![]() Beginning the show with advice on 4 ways to grow your small business, we tapped into and expanded on suggestions made by Stephen Jones, our first guest. Here’s the lowdown:
Find good sales books, books on CD, seminars, tutorials/tools, workshops, sales resource web sites, etc. The resources are all around you! Check out our links!
Start a referral or affiliate program.
Gain referral commissions for your hard work. You probably make these referrals anyway. Now get paid for them. Link to SalesConx…
Also, make your white papers and tips available in A/V format. Or do an e-Book. (link) More accessible to more people.
Our first guest was Stephen Jones, of Growth Strategies.
It was great to have Stephen on the show again after his first run a few months ago. We learned in his first visit how he helps companies grow – and guarantees it, even. But this time, Stephen came to visit and talk about his new standalone offer, called Executive Briefings. Tired of sales pitches that don’t open doors? Want traction that actually continues…then talk to Stephen about the 30 day process of turning your tired sales pitch and presentation into a robust, informational, educational executive briefing. By providing business owners with information, even bad news, then re-situating your offering as the solution, you open many more doors and close many more sales. Far more affordable than losing sales, this tool is a standard service for Stephen’s clients, but he now offers it a la carte, as well. Google him for contact info!
Next up, we had Keven Izen of Pick Media, a recruitment advertising agency. So, you ask, what is a recruitment ad agency? Keven tells us they work with HR to bring efficiency and efficacy to the process of placing job want ads, often in print and online. Never costing the company more money, and gaining increases in the work process and targeting, Pick Media brings huge value to the clients they serve. Working best with a decentralized industry – they specialize in healthcare, hotels, restaurants and more – they allow for streamlined process and better overall delivery and cost efficiency. They take the 15% rate card discounts available in want-ads as compensation – the one place in advertising the discount still applies. Be sure to check out what they have to offer if you are a franchise, a hotel, restaurant or are in healthcare.
At the end of the show we had time to revisit with both Stephen and Keven about their best successes and what the process of working with them feels like. Be sure to listen to hear about how they helped others – in much the same way they could certainly help you.

Thu, 21 February 2008 ![]() WOW! Some shows are just even better than you expected, even with high expectations – you surely won’t want to miss this one! Lee Kantor and Andy Greider cover, up front, the week they’ve had. From speeches at the Flourishing Forum and qAlias event for Andy, to a return to the RTIR Publicity Forum in NYC for Lee, plus a launch of Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy for Atlanta, things are looking golden for the two host of your show. Next up, we had on the show Cloud Conrad, from Maid Brigade, who is making your home a better, greener, less toxic, cleaner, more environmentally friendly place to be. Cloud shared with our listeners how Maid Brigade became the only national residential house cleaning service committed to the health of you, your family and the environment, with our exclusive green cleaning service. She spoke of how there are over 100 products on the market with a chemical known to cause cancer. You can check out this site for info on this and other bad chemicals. Schedule your cleaning service today. As our Unique of the Week, we had on Libby Laguta, of L2Designs, who has made hospital design, and evidence based design her specialty. Working with a team of 3 others, she brings a new look and feel to the hospital, but there’s a lot that goes into the process. Not only does the space need to be germ free, but the colors need to be chosen carefully, along with the materials in each piece of furniture and room or nurse station décor. In many cases, Libby works on redesign projects where she must bring a wing or unit up to the modern day – with technology and new ideas figured in, without losing touch with what she is working from. A new “wood look? brings homier feelings and there are many innovations to make the process more varied, but not any easier. Renovation is hardest but is most of what is done and where the majority of her work comes from. Check out her work for Emory University Hospital, Greenville Memorial and Carolinas Medical Center. Join us next week on Uniqueness is Power, for more great information, unique companies and money saving ideas and offers. Comments[16] |
Thu, 7 February 2008 ![]() Lee and Andy open the show spending a few minutes talking about how to green your business, as well as how some other companies have already done so. We find out Lee is anti-green, but not for unwarranted reasons – tune in the hear why. Our guest today was Maria Elena Duron, the Champion of Connections, and owner of Buzz2Bucks.com – where your personal brand is the key to success and her passion. Maria was a great guest, sharing with the listeners a plethora of tips, ideas and thoughts on how to best network, how to create and maintain a personal brand and what things they need to stay aware of in a changing world of relationship driven marketing. You can check out her book and learn more plus connect with her when you Google Maria Elena Duron. We ended up the show talking about the SuperBowl Ads – whether they were on MySpace, YouTube or a myriad of other online entities, this was the first year the advertisers maybe got their 3 million per 30 seconds worth, with the increased viewing. Still, we debate that most, if not almost all of the ads lacked punch or drive or selling power – and that most didn’t even manage to provide branding. Thu, 31 January 2008 ![]() We began this HUGE show with a “tiny section? – speaking about www.tinyurl.com – and how to use it to capture large links to place them in emails or blogs, or to hide affiliate id tags. We also walk our listeners through how to establish or set up a redirect url. Our first guest was the heralded Steve Rubel, who is a digital marketer with over 15 years experience. He currently serves as senior vice president in Edelman's me2revolution practice. Steve assists his clients by identifying key insights, trends and emerging digital platforms that can be applied in marketing programs. He came on our show to share this knowledge and more with our listeners, along with discussing articles he has on adage.com. Be sure to tune in to hear his thoughts on hot blog topics, what to do to increase your exposure online, where things are heading over the coming 12 months and how to reach those you covet. Check out an unique perspective on why the traditional mediums have “done well? over the past year and where things are heading in the converging world of old school advertising and the internet, according to MicroPersuasion blog author, Steve Rubel. With the Super Bowl coming up this weekend, we chose an Unique of the Week in keeping with the theme. Please welcome Steve Kapusta, from KSI Consulting. While most sports fans are glued to their TV sets to watch big events such as the Super Bowl, most folks don’t realize the business side sports, especially when it involves the health of the athletes. One such component involves athlete disability coverage which can be purchased by the athlete, the team or a sponsor depending upon the contract status in place. (with over 320 NFL players on the injured reserve for the past 3 seasons each, it IS a huge deal – this stat doesn’t cover other sports, even.) Steve came into the studio to talk about this aspect of the game – the hidden side most of us miss. But from there, we got into event cancellation insurance – due to performer illness or no show, due to weather or even other causes. Lee and I were stunned at the things you can insure – and we were even more impressed with Steve’s knowledge of the ways to do so. Be sure to check out how you can even insure promotions centered around games of chance and save your bottom line while doing so. == This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White (marketing, business and technology consulting experts), with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 24 January 2008 ![]() We get things rolling with everything you wanted to know about e-books, but were afraid to ask. For about 15 minutes, we cover the ways to virally grow your brand online through e-pubs, and give you sites and links and ideas galore. Tune in for this extremely helpful primer and starting guide to e-books. As our Business Booster, we bring in Kim Butler, from www.partners4prosperity.com – she is a specialist at guiding her clients to abundance through the Wealth Capitalization System. Working with core principles and avoiding pitfalls, she and her talented staff walk clients through a process and new manner of thinking they can use to help them re-adjust their path to wealth and financial wellbeing. Check out their newsletter, or go to the site and view Kim’s video. Able to help small business owners, and willing to give a free session to anyone who listens to the show, she is an instant asset to the balance sheet of your financial and business life. Our Unique of the Week was Richard Quan – who has begun work on the publication, Impact Times. (www.impacttimes.com) A hybrid of Harvard Business Review meets GQ – this is a stylish, yet ad free space for intelligent, thought provoking one page articles accompanied by full page works of art – be they photos, paintings or other mediums. Quan saw a need to expand on what was already out there – and place a magazine in circulation that could be a collector’s item – such high quality, it would be saved like a book, for future reference. With a strong background in both creating and selling publications, he has applied his knowledge and skills to make an amazing new splash in the rather red sea of written word and visual art. On top of that, he has assembled a strong staff of writers who work with him on providing content for both the magazine and for the website. Thu, 17 January 2008 ![]() Joining us tonight were Bob Schwerzel of TGS and Dave Charbonneau – the Network Capitalist. But first, Lee and I talk about the myriad ways in which the internet has changed the marketing mindset and also the American culture, how we’ve gone from an audience of millions to millions of audiences of one. We cover how to promote a blog – and hit some top tips – link deep into the blog website – as well as hit outside articles for cross reference. We cover why buying a redirect is helpful – for instance with SaveYourBottomLine.com. We even cover design and layout of text and pictures. Our first guest was Bob Schwerzel of TGS Products – who is helping redefine the word technology – at least how it is used in today’s lexicon and marketplace. He helps them leverage technology to bring products to market more quickly, with more accuracy and with more science. Working from angles that can include chemistry or culture – he and his team work with companies from a perspective uncommon in today’s market. Avoiding the pigeonhole people trying to place what he does in, is sometimes a challenge, but he breaks through by concretely showing how to save bottom line money. Next up was Dave Charbonneau – who is as multi-talented as he is fun to interview. Working with the Chicken Wire, with Interviews With Prosperity and with Global Network Studios, he helps people build networks, increase profits and leverage what they have in front of them to grow their businesses. All these companies are part of the company Applied Prosperity, LC. We began by trying to understand what the heck a blog-a-zine is – and why Dave created the Chicken Wire. Turns out, it is an amazing conduit to bring in great advice, strong opinions, outside interviews, sequenced articles, network building tools and even a trip to the Principles Office. You can also hear the Interviews with Prosperity on the wire (down the right hand side.) We began to work in deeper, to cover online networking – and how to best leverage it and what mistakes to avoid. Quality over quantity is key, according to Dave, and his networks are proof in concept. In fact, he has come up with a great new concept we love…Opportunities to Make Good! – this is a not-for-profit network for bringing collegiate interns together with business projects; to offer real world business experience and possible employment, management, or partnership opportunities for the interns; while moving quality (and perhaps otherwise stagnant) business concepts into the marketplace. Each project acts as a benefactor toward a societal concern of our times. Tune in to hear more and find out how to grow your strategic partnerships and your networks with Dave. ==

Fri, 11 January 2008 ![]() CNN/Money magazine says "You're Only As Good As Google Says You Are" and they are right. We explore tips and ideas that go beyond this article in our first fifteen minutes. Before meetings, after meetings, same with interviews, if you're in sales, or are a professional whose name is your brand - people are Googling you - learn how to make a postive first e-Impression. From there, we speak with Fritz Scheffel who has his eyes set on changing healthcare in the US. With a move that would help business owners save on the trouble and hassle that is involved with healthcare, not to mention the cost, Fritz has a slightly different approach than that of Dan Boaz, also a guest on the same topic previously. Fritz is all about education of the American public, as to what happened to create the current system, how to undo it at a "user level" and how to plant seeds for a better tomorrow. Next up, we were joined by Joanne Victoria, who has Vision - With a Capital V - and much more - to offer our listeners. Joanne is a business growth expert who understands that vision must meet action in order for people to realize goals and reach and then exceed goals they have set. We loved having Joanne on the show, as she really epitomizes the character of coaches we respect - tough love, rigid yet followable guidelines and an eye on the ball that never wavers, so neither does that of her clients. Finally, we were graced with the presence of Kelly Reidinger - who joined us to speak about her new company - KR Associates (which may soon have a new name, as well as a new mantra.) Today, we cover the mantra. Kelly, who has worked as an appraiser for much of her career, saw a need for something more for her clients. Yes, she's very good at doing appraisals, but she has the skills to be a "home value advisor" - something she is revamping into. She works with clients on the appraisal, makes suggestions as to which improvements bring best value, and then strategically recommends builders who suit the client's needs and best interests, right down to personality matches. She then acts as a buffer or conduit between buidler and homeowner, mitigating troubles before they even arise, and saving the homeowner nightmare stories many people tell. Her "buffer" costs are picked up by the builders, and she proves an invaluable asset to her clients. Another great show and thanks to all of our guests... ==== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White (marketing, business and technology consulting experts), with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 3 January 2008 ![]() What a way to kick off the New Year! If all our shows are this good - well, as listeners, you'll be in for a great 2008! Lee and Andy began 2008 discussing how you, our listerners can leverage free advertising channels online to drive sales and bring more awareness, coverage and as follows, prosperity to your New Year. Some of the tools we covered: Craigs List - what began in one city as a "we'll see what happens" service has been a raging success for all sorts of things - from product driven businesses - to service driven businesses - to the other individual sales and tools that were expected to do well. SalesSpider - a very interesting company that has all sorts of options most social and business networking sites do not - from free classifieds online, to job postings, to leads to forums for discussion and business deals - they live up to the motto "other social networks make you friends - we make you money." We believe that coupled with qAlias, who lets you "own your name on the web" and "take top priority on Google and Yahoo searches" this is the best duo rolling. We also looked at other innovative channels to help you grow your business - to find out more, listen in. Our guest on the show was Scott Allen - now what can you say about Scott - which hat would we have him wear? Author of The Virtual Handshake? Columnist with About.com for the Entreprenuer section? Keen observer of social and busniness networks, with an astute view on which bring business to different business niches? How about ALL of those - and more?!? So, we began by being sure to ask Scott about his decade long rise – where did he begin? How? What made him succeed? What made him realize the power of online business? Well, the first thing may have been forming a corporation out a chat room – be sure to tune in to hear this story! Next, Scott took the time to cover his opinions of which verticals and specialties should use which social/business networks. Scott suggest everyone should be on LinkedIn. We happen to agree, and we also think Scott’s recommendation you use the free option is a good one – unless you plan to use LinkedIn for your primary networking source. For those seeking to do international business, Xing is the thing. For pop culture oriented businesses, try MySpace; for the technology driven crowd, do Facebook. Scott recommends Ryze and e-Cademy for the micro-businesses, and showed us a new two sites: www.meetup.com and www.ojeez.com. From there, the discussion of how to build your online brand, how to grow your business and how to become a success like Scott has get in depth coverage – please tune in to hear more… ===== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 20 December 2007 ![]() Andy and Lee begin the show with the best techno tools they’ve come across in the past year….and 2007 held some wonders. Lee uses Twitter to miniblog his exploits as the Fat Guy on Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy, Andy uses Jott to relay quick reminders and updates to himself and others, Lee and Adam have created the best thing going for those getting in shape and losing weight…and Andy has risen to the top of Google and Yahoo this year, through a new service for $9.95 a month (and has made over $25,000 as a result of using this tool.) We were determined to bring in the New Year with a business boosting bang, so we did a double Business Booster section – and Vanessa Lowry was with us from Profits in Progress (www.profitsinprogress.com) Her company is an interesting and compelling flip side to the explosion of the internet. In helping businesspeople handwrite notes and send via snail mail, she returns the personal touch – and in many cases – the connections and the sales. Featuring three flexible packages, Profits in Progress makes the process easy, fun and instantly appealing. The cards are unique works of art, designed by Lowry, and often adorned with quotes from famous writers, authors or poets. If you’re looking for a unique and effective manner with which to correspond and stand out from the crowd, your search is over. Next up, we were joined by Jason Syzdek, whose company Jaymunda, is beginning the revamp of the Uniqueness is Power website. Going from a straight blog and download site to a more robust, interactive and educational portal type of site will be a huge change to what Uniqueness is Power can offer its listeners. Now, instead of just reading the blog overviews, and downloading shows, users and listeners will be able to access pertinent information, helpful tips and news and even promotional specials. To be included is the dynamic Networking Toolbox, where how to gain the most from your relationship capital is explored – to INeedSomeoneWho.com – a selection tool for the best of the best for various service categories, all based on your needs and input. Look for the new look and feel in Q2 of 2008. We ended our year having some childish fun – keeping it all light at heart and easy going, to be sure. Joining us as Unique of the Week, was Rob Solberg, of Brainwave Studios (www.brainwavestudios.net) and creator of the new Franktown Fun website, stage 1 of an interactive online virtual world for kids 8-14 or so. Franktown is based on the success of Webkins and Club Penguin, but has many more features that should make it stand out. With Guitar Hero 3 and other music based games being all the rage, the fact that Franktown is music intensive, should only help boost word of mouth popularity and near the Tipping Point faster. Next steps include the creation of a soundtrack and band, named “Call Me Harvey? and then an animated Franktown TV series. It won’t be long until Franktown is on a computer near you – likely in the living room, if you have kids. This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Uniqueness is Power is a marketing and business growth show, broadcast live Thursdays 6-7pm eastern, and downloadable by podcast, or RSS Feed. Please send any questions to andygreider@comcast.net. Thu, 20 December 2007 The show starts off with a bit of a bang, as we explore the downside to the social and business networks out there. With many people thinking of Linking out – due to inappropriate or unwanted ads, spam or just the fact you have to be a part of the hive to see the buzz….the reasons are many for a new search being undertaken in making sense of personal search online. Do you recall doing businesses from a dorm room? If you’re as old and Lee and Andy, you may be thinking of certain illegal enterprises. However, in today's world of the internet, Chris Pund and www.dorm-room-biz.com leverage the idea of showing others how to do what he has succeeded at – running a dorm room business. This is a great blog, about the get better as the new look and feel will bring more great info to the forefront and allow students everywhere to set an entrepreneurial foot forward – through cyberspace or in real time in the dorms – with businesses that appeal to almost everyone. From learning how to become an Ebay tycoon to running fan sites with AdSense revenue, Chris has all sorts of great things for students to try. In a world full of security breaches, intrusions, identity theft and more – our Business Booster, Peter Rung is a man with mission. Peter seeks to protect your data and keep the unwanted out. Peter is with ID Rank Security – (www.idranksecurity.com) – and don’t worry – we read it as I Drank Security, too. His company works with businesses to help them encrypt and protect their data – the most valuable part of any businesses lifeblood. From mission critical documents, to proprietary secrets, to customer data lists, he has it all covered, around the world. Speaking of around the world, we were joined by our Unique of the Week, Bishop Clarence Harris – who has a mission to change the world through internet television. This is no small goal, as he hopes to re-teach history, culture and thinking to those willing to learn. Working from the understanding that there is a great deal of current teaching that changes, ignores or manipulates what has happened, Bishop Harris believes his network, DITN – Diversity International Television Network – will help interactively involve the learning public, and show them the way past racism, poverty and other oppression. His goals are huge, but so is his intellect and his passion – listen in to hear more. This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 13 December 2007 Our Business Booster was Jeff Haynie, of Appcelerator (www.appcelerator.com) – the home of More App, Less Code. Haynie was fresh off the announcement of JBoss founder Marc Fleury, as a new advisor and was extremely excited about where his company is headed. Working in the SOA space, his open source code is available to enrich user interfaces, increase speed and usability and make software more enjoyable to use. Having developers on staff who can work within this open source framework can deliver better offerings to your customers, better products to your clients and better functioning tools to your staff. Our Unique of the Week was Rob Franta with the Reverse Funnel System – an invention of cyber-warrior, Ty Coughlin. Coughlin’s invention comes from the idea of an upside down funnel. In normal business models, the top of the funnel is thick and wide, and accommodates a large amount of the flow. In the reverse funnel – the prospects are vetted and carefully chosen and only a few make the “hole? at the top. From there, those who show the interest and needed fortitude and aptitude are chosen. Franta explained how this system works and brings people in that actually do the work and how to funnel expands on the lower end, instead of the top. Interesting, to say the least. Thu, 6 December 2007 ![]() This week Andy and Lee were joined in the studio by Elizabeth Gordon, of Flourishing Business, who went over a very cool Top 9 list of the things a business needs to do to flourish and not just create a bigger job for the owner. Flourishing means being able to run on its own and thrive without the owner or a key employee for a period of time. Gordon’s methods may sound familiar to those who have read books like Tim Ferriss’s Four Hour Work Week – but Gordon was there first, developing and promoting her own model – in the form of a flower – years ago. As Business Booster, Michael Wilkes of Dynamic Answers was the featured guest. Known as the Disambiguator, Wilkes takes complex software and technology issues and breaks them down into a blueprint – making sure things happen right the first time. In the business of preventive maintenance, Wilkes “measures twice, cuts once? – and helps companies do so, as well. His ROI as a Business Booster is hard to measure, because not only does he save the cost of a second re-do project, but he also saves sanity, frustration and anger – quite intangible and as they might say, priceless… Unique of the Week, Adanna Hartwell and Keisha Duck own a Dream Dinners franchise. Can you believe that for the low low price of $250 or so a month, you can spend a few hours one day and prep almost all the meals your family will need – meals that can be on the table in about 30 or so minutes. With a lemon chicken specialty favorite, Dream Dinners hooked Hartwell as a customer first, and then the unique model drew her into ownership soon thereafter. Operating in the 30075 and 30076 zip codes around Atlanta, she joins myriad other Dream Dinner owners in helping parents thrive in a busy society and balance work and home to make more time for the things that need done outside the kitchen. Fri, 26 October 2007 ![]() This week we had another terrific trio of guests – and leading things off was Stephen Jones, our Author, Blogger, Speaker. Jones is a business and marketing consultant with www.GrowthStrategies.us and is very original in the way he approaches business growth – he literally gets paid for the results he produces – and it’s written right into the contract. You want ROI proven? You want solid, sustained growth in sales? Jones has the answers. For all the small to medium sized business owners out there, stuck on a growth plateau, or who are looking to grow their small business, we’d recommend you listen in, then call Stephen and mention the show to receive a free consultation from him – a $1000 value – but yours for the asking because you listen to UiP. Next up was our Business Booster, Doug McCrea, from Acquire Local. McCrea has a long resume from the Fortune 500 and he cut his teeth as a direct mail professional, but to the delight of entrepreneurs the world over, left that world to form a company that brings elite technology and data research to the smaller, local merchant. Seeking those who have a need to drive local traffic in the B to C forum, McCrea and his company have a proven formula for success that brings targeted, interesting, double opted in traffic to your doorstep. No need to worry about spamming your customers through their methods, in fact, just the opposite – they’ll be asking for more, and you’ll be there to provide the services and products they need. Give them a call today – contact sales manager Mark Steinbach at (773) 583-6910, or msteinbach@acquirelocal.com As Unique of the Week, we had the revolutionary company, and amazingly articulate guest, Kendall Borchardt of Capital City Financial Advisors on the show – and they are working on things that help a realtor, a CPA, a CFA and other investment advisors grow their businesses. Borchardt described how CCFA works in a variety of ways to help financial professionals better serve those they work with, and to grow their own businesses while doing so. Borchardt explained in easy to understand terms, this very unique approach that leverages some out of the box thinking. Essentially, CCFA partners can leverage for their clients equity repositioning – or the ability to invest against your home’s equity in retirement planning, college savings and more – plus the ability to provide advisor channel mortgages and allowing the financial professional to be compensated for advising the largest single financial transaction of the client’s life. This all leads to better client retention, cross selling opportunities with very little extra work and a certain added revenue source. Thu, 18 October 2007 ![]() Join us for another episode of the Business Growth Solutions show, Uniqueness is Power. Download the mp3 today and learn how to grow your business, who can help you save money or make business easier, and from others creating unique and original ideas and finding their niche. In today’s episode, hosts Lee Kantor and Andy Greider tackle the top reasons why businesses fail – and what you can do about it. For more information, be sure to listen in – not only do Lee and Andy cover the top things that sink a business, but also the best resources to help get around those issues. From poor planning to bad staffing, from inadequate time management to inconvenient physical location – to much more – there are a myriad of ways your business can sink (or learn, and swim.) One of the top reasons businesses fail is solved by this week’s Business Booster, Lee Doernberg of Liquid Capital. (www.liquidcapitalcorp.com/ldoernberg) Lee takes us through what factoring feels like for a small business owner, what makes his company a very unique and strong option over the many online “volume driven? factor-ers online, and what forms factoring can take. We were surprised it is much more than just accounts receivable financing – and that he can work with people from small startups to larger companies, even on an international basis. Unlike a bank, factoring agents do not examine the business owner’s credit – they do that for the person they are dealing with – the payee of the invoice or purchase order. This means they can often say yes when the bank says no, at a rate of somewhere around 3% for each 30 days outstanding. As a small business, doesn’t it makes sense to let someone do the relevant credit checks, the manpower on the collection and turn over 70-80% upfront and then a total of at least 90% on the backend (if the invoice takes 90 days)? Work smarter, not harder, with factoring. From there, we moved onto our Unique of the Week, Penny Haynes of www.1stpod.com and www.onlinecommunitymagazines.com. Penny is amazing – a smart woman who has been a programming, designer and problem solver and is now helping business owners grow their organizations online with podcasting, vcasting, blogging and now online community “magazines? – which need to be seen to be believed. Penny has been responsible for the dramatic growth of some businesses we know, including the launch of www.ivwcc.org with Jerrilynn Thomas and helping with PodCamp Atlanta 2007. She is articulate and knows more about using Web 2-3.0 technology to promote businesses than most people will ever glean, even in a decade or more to come. If you want to meet someone with a full scope and scale of how to leverage this powerful asset, speak with Penny today. Comments[20] |
Thu, 11 October 2007 ![]() We jumped right into the fray this week, as we had three guests who all lent a tremendous amount of insight, vision and assistance for our listeners. Each one brings very little theory and instead, a ton of practical experience to the plate. Beginning with Ruth King – author of “The Ugly Truth About Small Business? and “The Ugly Truth About Managing People? – plus owner of Ribbon and iBusiness Channel – we learned from true experience. Instead of basing her books in theory, she chose to highlight 50 case studies of “never saw it coming, it could happen to you? small business traps and pitfalls in her first book, and then in the second, the same approach for managing people. Ruth is articulate, full of sage advice and a success story herself – please download the show and check out what she brings to the show and to her viewers on the iBusiness Channel each week. Next up we had Woodsson Woods of Woods Business Group as our Business Booster. For those either looking to buy a business or sell a business they own, these is often a lot more involved than first meets the eye. Woodsson puts together the team – presale/buy, during sale/buy and post sale/buy that gets the deal done. In his line of work, that’s the best deliverable you could ask for – that and to do so with deep understanding and integrity, which Woodsson brings as well. During the Business Booster segment, Woodsson outlines the way in which his company works and what to expect if you ever want to buy or sell a business. Finally, we had our Unique of the Week – and WOW! What a concept! What a personality! What a game! Amanda Brown, dating coach and creator of Playing the Field Card Game, Workbook and book, was our guest for a lively and free wheeling interview that really took the studio by storm. Tune in to learn more about what it means when she tilts her head or he raises an eyebrow. Tune in and learn how to get from first base all the way around to home run in Amanda’s conversation starter (and continuer) game Playing the Field. And finally, hear about the amazing kisses at the Emmy’s – all due to fairly innocent knowledge of the game – from the Bachelor and more. Buy the game today and play tonight. Our studio was boiling by the time this show was in the bag – we learned a lot about good business, bad business, buying business, selling business, monkey business and “that’s none of your business? – all in one show. Thanks for tuning in and be sure to catch next week, when we’ll be back with more top guests and business building topics. ======== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Fri, 5 October 2007 ![]() Wow! What a show! What a great time! What amazing information and guests! As we kicked off the second year of Uniqueness is Power, Lee and I were again fortunate enough to bring you two great guests - Amy Otto of AFLAC and Lance Edelman of Identification Verification Systems plus a baker's dozen of great marketing and sales tips to help grow your company. Be sure to listen in after you read the list, as we flesh these out to a robust 20 minutes or so of free, strong advice. Our Business Booster was Amy Otto, of AFLAC, who is a powerhouse, and also hosts Atlanta Business Radio on RadioX. She is a mom, a chef, a passionate SpoungeBob advocate, an ardent advocate for better healthcare and Kenny Roger's biggest fan. None of that interferes with her zeal and vigor, the light that shines in her eyes as she talks about her new work with AFLAC. Amy left a huge successful medical lab and research company to work for AFLAC after seeing how the new technologies were progressing but weren't making it far enough - and she knew she had a chance with AFLAC to help from the core out. In this episode, she covers how AFLAC helps businessess, helps employees, which plans there are - we like the Cancer Plan - WOW! - and how this costs employers nothing - in fact, can save them 7% on FICA even. Amy is the one AFLAC agent who can explain the "why" better than anyone else I've ever met - and she will help you make your company a better place. Drop her a line and ask for a free consultation. Our Unique of Week, was IDV-Systems.com CEO Lance Edelman. Lance, Lee and I all strived towards boiling down a complex idea - that of securing your applications from a central source, instead of each application having it's own measures, into laymen's terms - or at least ones Lee and I could understand. Lance did a great job articulating why this centralization is helpful, how it reduces points of failure and hacking, as well as lowers ongoing administration costs. Although none of us want to admit it, we all have gaps in our security on our programs, in our infrastructure and within our organization. Lance and his team will assure the logistics and the flow work properly with no change for the end user. Be sure to tune in and get some sage advice on how to make a better password - it is not as hard as you'd think - no need for remembering wierd U8what4lunch type deals...instead, tune in and learn from a 26 year IT vet, who is repaving the block on this trip around. Contact Lance to learn more. ==== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Sat, 29 September 2007 "Sanity vs Sicko" Author (A Health Plan for Business Owners!), Mobile Messaging and the One Year Anniversary of Uniqueness is Power Join us for Dan Boaz who talks "healthcare to benefit ALL without government involvement" - and Larry Block of MMT - shows you how to reach people on the device they carry 85% of the time Ok, folks, so it was the 1 year anniversary - we passed 50 shows, and we hosted 142 guests in this past year! Wow! What a milestone - and we share with you, in case you missed them - the top 10 shows, top 5 guests and the 4 specialty shows. Links available at: http://uip.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=261812 Joining us in the studio as this week's Author/Business Booster combo was Dan Boaz, who has written a very practical essay about how to save the health care and insurance debacle in the USA without government involvement. Boaz has a 5 step program, outlined below, but please download his pdf for his full opinion and reasoning. The program's five steps are interdependent. Step 1. Eliminate health insurance in the workplace making all health policies individual or family owned. Step 2. Require that individual and family health insurance become mandatory like auto insurance. Step 3. Insurance companies must institute a policy of guaranteed insurability for all applicants. Step 4. The major medical part of individual and family health policies must be changed. Step 5. Continue to make health insurance policies non cancellable and affordable by the insurance companies. In our second segment, we had another segue-way guest – both Business Booster AND Unique of the Week – Larry Block of Mobile Marketing Technologies. Larry shared how cell phone text messaging, coupons, alerts and other opt-in driven information can benefit both the cell phone user and the business or messaging entity. Accessing the one device Americans have on them 85% of the time, 24-7, makes the most sense. Sending to email and to voicemail are slower, less reliable and make the info received far less valuable. From sending text alerts to students in cases like the recent Virginia Tech and Deleware State gunmen and shootings to reminding patrons of upcoming concerts, the potentials are fairly unlimited. Be sure to check out the ways in which Larry can help you promote your business in a green manner – no trees are killed to send a text or coupon message on the cell phone, and it stays with the patron wherever the phone goes. No more forgetting coupons, no more missing events. Thanks for making us grow the way we have in the past few months, and in our first year. If you listen, and know people who could benefit (87% of small – medium sized businesses can) – please forward to a friend. Thanks! ========== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 20 September 2007 ![]() From the development of young souls into wise older ones, to the monitoring of technology to make it more efficient (plus hints "in English" to help improve PC performance today!) - we covered a wide range of topics today, with guest Crissy Klaus, CEO of FIO360 and Jeff Paige, Owner and CEO of Blue Tree Technology. Lee and Andy began the show talking about how to go from networking - to netweaving - to networthing - the three levels of networking now being discussed. What begins with "how can I help YOU?" turns into "who do I know who can help YOU grow?" (netweaving) and then into "How can WE ALL gain traction and GROW as a result of this conglomeration?" Our Business Booster was Jeff Paige of Blue Tree Technology, and he gave Lee and Andy plus our packed audience in studio a lot of great tips to improving the performance of their PC, what NOT to do in a meltdown and also previewed his remote monitoring service - which seems like a very pro-active manner in which to make sure you don't run into problems. Jeff is extremely personable and easy to understand, which is something all too rare in those who are technologically proficient. He speaks English - not Geek - and he even walked Lee through the intricacies of how to get better performance from his PC. Check him out in the interview, learn more and then give them a call - when you have PC Problems and don't know what to do, call 770 849 - BLUE. We moved from high tech fixes on to high tech, yet organic, childcare, right here in Atlantic Station, opening in early 2008. I met Crissy Klaus about 6 months prior and knew once things began to grow, we'd want her on the show to speak about the new FIO360. Meaning "to become" (Fio) and 360 meaning "whole" - the name makes sense, especially when you hear what this amazing undertaking encompasses. So, what's the big deal? From kid-sized entrance doors, to 4 stage security, from organic meals to family dinner packs to go, from everything being based in nature to a pyramid staged program that takes children through and prepares them well for schools like Waldorf, Montessori and more - this is an amazing facility. In addition, Klaus is helping amortize the cost of the service to be competitive with other facilities by adding all sorts of extra residual and helpful resources. Be sure to go to the website and download all the info you can - and get on the waiting list - which can only grow to a little over 250. ========= This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 13 September 2007 ![]() From marketing your business with what you already know, and a few more tips from hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor, plus the power of our Business Booster - renowned CRM expert from Profiling Solutions, Alanna Galiano and CEO of our Unique of the Week, Fast Pitch Networking’s Bill Jula, we have another show full of information on how to grow your business and your brand, plus how to keep up with the changes in technology and make your mark online and off. Lee and Andy began the show by talking about the many things we have available already to help jump start marketing right out of the gate in a new business - or from now on in an existing one. Things we forget we know include - knowledge we have to share with potential customers – just because you know something doesn’t mean everyone else does. Don’t neglect or forget your network of friends, neighbors, old co-workers, church, etc. Be sure to pick locationsyou’re your business that engender cooperation and synergy and community involvement. Work on immersion and partnership branding and educational efforts. Don’t try and sell – try and help and sales will come. Work on how to grow through the internet – two of our suggestions are – www.fastpitchnetworking.com and www.qalias.com. We’ve brought you another Business Booster that can help organize your data, improve your sales, but perhaps more importantly, help you understand how to connect with customers on a regular, ongoing and beneficial basis. Alanna Galiano with Profiling Solutions has a plethora of experience in the field, is a nationally known speaker and works with companies in a consultative manner, assessing their needs, goals, and business drivers in order to help facilitate what CRM solution to suggest. Working with all the major players makes her able to help on all levels, and having strong partnerships and knowledge of who else is excellent in the space makes her an invaluable resource for your business. Listen in as she tells us what the common mistakes are in CRM purchasing, how you can migrate data from one CRM to another and how she has helped clients succeed. Next, we were joined again by Bill Jula, CEO of Fast Pitch Networking. And yes, we’re smitten. We love what Bill is doing – and the proof is in the pudding – the event we held Wednesday the 12th was proof Allowing for multiple profiles (assuming separate email addresses), Fast Pitch members can promote more than one business and can use the PR mode for each – up to one press release a day that hits Google News, Yahoo News, the inbox of thousands of Fast Pitch members and specific press outlets, if chosen. The large amount of fresh content has Fast Pitch releases often ranking overtop of the wires like Reuters and AP, and the niche focus of the members assures most often that the releases aren’t buried. Tell us one other place you can get top listings in Google News and Yahoo News without spending thousands per month? With a scope and scale of current tools and more on the way, we wholeheartedly suggest a good look at Fast Pitch – and tell Bill that Lee Kantor and Andy Greider sent you – we want him to know you found out about Fast Pitch here. ======= This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 6 September 2007 ![]() Ever wanted to be an author? These days it is easier than ever and with EBookPro you can do so much more than just become an acknowledged expert. Lee and Andy discuss the benefits to EBooks, and to EBookPro - and walk you through how to use this type of tool to virally create a massive flow of visitors and signups for your mailing list. Increase your internet sales today and get started on promoting something you know how to do. Everyone is concerned about benefits - and about lowering costs and keeping their bases covered. In companies with 100 and less employees, keeping up with changing laws, exceptions, rules and more is the job of one person who wears many other hats. Often, assumptions are made that can cost the company thousands if not more in potential losses. E-Ben Concepts takes a very logical approach, educating clients on the pitfalls, and taking over the responsibilities. Blake Watts joined us and shared what makes his company different, and some of the dirty secrets of what happens in many cases with COBRA, with FMLA and with other compliance gone bad. He also spoke about how his company has saved between 70,000-150,000 a year for some accounts. Listen in to find out more - and Google the name Blake Watts for more info, as he had already met up with our next guest. Googling someone's name for info about them - it is becoming a common occurance. So, what control do you have about what comes up about you? Up until recently, not much, unless you had the money to do a pay-per-click campaign and the wherewithall to make it stick and keep you near the top. Along comes QAlias, with a $10 a month solution to assure you top #1 positions on Google each time someone searches (as well as Yahoo!) Our Unique of the Week, QAlias co-founder Charles Fellingham spoke about the importance of being able to position online and how his company helps this happen. Constantly evolving and growing, QAlias will soon be able to drop backgrounds in for larger organizations or companies that want a branded look. Currently, the monthly fee gets you top ranking, a bio page, a business card page and a bulletin that works as a blog and an email blast center. Not shabby at all - in fact, we recommend this to any small business owner - it can save you the next time you forget or run out of business cards, or want someone to find you amidst all the internet clutter - sign up and then tell them to Google you. Try it - go there now and type in Andy Greider. Then check out the top link. ================== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 30 August 2007 ![]() As they say, a show is made great not by the hosts, but by the guests. This edition of Uniqueness is Power is absolutely no exception to that rule. In fact, it epitomizes that idea. Today we were joined by motivational educator extraordinaire, Carlton Reed, the founders of AdGridWork and ReviewBack, Kyle Johnson and Nick Mazza plus our Unique of the Week – Craig Van Pelt of PlantMakers. Here’s the scoop… Quick, raise your hand as high as you can….now raise it a little higher. Did you? Then how was it as high as it could be the first time? Carlton Reed began our show getting us past can’t, making us realize most can’ts are won’ts. Our Business Booster guests, Kyle Johnson and Nick Mazza are enterprising altruists who wanted to find a way to beat the pay-per-click – and they have with adgridwork.com – which is more like trade-per-click. In this model, registered users submit an ad, and then in return for their ad being posted on other sites, they post ads on their own. The return and reward is easy to understand – scratch back. There is no money or affiliate payout – which makes plenty of sense to us. They have also created reviewback.com – a site to help promote blogs – one blogger reviews and promotes another and after a few times, exposure is greatly increased. Both these ideas can help tap in to tens of thousands of sites and hundreds of thousands of eyeballs each month – what a way to boost your business! Our Unique of the Week is perhaps one of our favorites ever! Wow – what a great idea. Sometimes you just see a need and you fill it. Craig Van Pelt, co-founder of PlantMakers.com found a need to help people who had lost their valuable soil in the area near After obtaining a patent, he saw a way to leverage this and help alleviate other issues. In one of the most environmentally friendly and green moves ever, Millenium Soil helps plants grow in a self contained pouch – eliminating regular soil and reducing watering to about every 2-3 months or perhaps less. When the Millennium Soil® crystals come in contact with water, each crystal acts as a powerful sponge, absorbing hundreds of times it weight in water. As the crystals absorb water, they actually “grow? to about the size of a nickel, and appear like globules of crystal clear white Jell-O. This technology has quickly been spread across many industries – from pet store wheat grass kits, to year-long tomato packages on the consumer side – to where they began – renting live plant centerpieces to restaurants, hotels, country clubs and caterers as a cost efficient alternative to cut flowers. In the hotel sector, customers include virtually every major hotel brand such as Hilton, Sheraton, Ritz Carlton, Marriott, Double Tree, Best Western, Embassy Suites, Ramada, Holiday Inn, etc. In the restaurant sector, service ranges from both chains and independent restaurants ranging from fine food to fast food. Hotels also are now employing Garden Suites – where plants are lavishly added to rooms to give them a real nice at home touch – and bringing plants to the one area of hotels that they never have been practical before. This helps hotels sell more than sleep – not a bad idea…and pretty darn unique. PlantMakers splits the upcharge on the rooms and provides the products at no cost. What a deal! This is the most unique solution for using plants in places and in ways where regular water and soil can’t be used. Amazing potential – and about to franchise, PlantMakers is making a difference! ================== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Sat, 25 August 2007 ![]() By now, almost everyone has heard of social networking - and with the popularity of sites all the way from Friendster to MySpace and Facebook to YouTube - it is no wonder. There is even a growing awareness of business networking coming into play with Linked In and Ryze plus other sites that paved a path to meeting online and leveraging the reach of your network internationally. In this week's show, we spoke with two pioneers in a new space - that of making social and business networking come together, and creating a new realm (each quite differently from the other) in which networking becomes not only a lead source and business growth tool, but a business in and of itself. Opening the show, we discussed some networking do's and don'ts - some things to be aware of - mainly that this isn't a silver bullet and there is the netWORKing part to it. In order to get back, you need to put in good effort. Remember it is about the other person - they are the ones you need to have concern for - if you worry about you first, you will not network well, and your returns will not come back around. To begin the guest call, we were fortunate enough to be joined by Adam J. Kovitz, of both the National Networker and of the RNIA (Relationship Networking Industry Association.) Kovitz began with explaining the theories behind the RNIA - a new body being created to help bring some order and some standards to the networking space - especially in business. In addition, the site will feature a bevy of educational materials - from a myriad of angles. CBOK's - or Common Bodies of Knowledge - will be soon available for 10 or more different areas that are important in networking and weaving. In addition, the site will feature recruiter resources, investor resources, consultants, education and even governmental aids and advice. Kovitz is also in charge of the National Networker - both a newsletter as well as website portal for all Networking activity throughout the In the second half of the show, we were joined by Bill Jula, CEO of www.fastpitchnetworking.com - a site we've raved about on the show before as we see massive potential for companies to expand reach locally and internationally, in on and offline forums, with many tools to assist many different needs. Check out the site, and listen in to Bill's interview to find out where things are heading - we personally love the PR function (it is how you are reading this post) - and the integration of Web 2.0 (podcasts, video, blogs and more.) Tune in next week as we'll have another awesome show for you to enjoy, with more tips on how to grow your business, save monthly money and even crack a smile or two. ========== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 16 August 2007 ![]() Young companies often can't take on cost of building sales forces, training and providing tools - we'll show you how on today's Uniqueness is Power. If you already have a sales team and want to clone your top employees - all sales managers have retention and quality of candidate issues - we'll show you how. Not only will you learn how to build an amazing sales team, but you'll also learn how to give them the tools to succeed learn more about tips on training. Plus we'll discuss ways to grow your small business and tap resources most owners don't know about. Andy and Lee begin the show talking about companies, recommendations and tools to use to help grow your small business, keep costs low each month, and maximize each dollar you spend in advertising, marketing, sales and even for things like printing and shipping. With the focus being on finding, hiring, training and then effectively outfitting a sales team with proper tools, Lee and Andy then turned to sales training and came up with some resources for those seeking to help increase effectiveness of the current sales force. Then we turn to the sales guru's - on today's show, we have two of the best. First, John Dynes, a veteran with over 20 years in sales management, talks about his product, Sales Smarts. Driven from a "I saw a need" standpoint, Dynes and his team drew on experience and solved a problem they say each day. "When you have salespeople who are arbitrarily assigned regions, verticals or accounts - it dramatically decreases your effectiveness and your sales numbers," said Dynes. "We decided to help organize the sales effort and distribution of leads and resources more efficiently, so once training ended, there was a next stepping stone towards bigger profits." Dynes also has a tool to assist retail companies in site selection and provides companies critical data to assure them the ability to grow in those tender first months. So, we've covered training and outfitting the team, once together, with the best tools possible. Now, what about finding and placing those top talents in sales? They don't grow on trees, and they aren't always obvious. Jim Aden of Hire Golden asks the question - if you could clone your top sales people or begin a team from the ground up that was high end talent - would you want to? What if that recruiting effort didn't cost ANYTHING until the new people began to sell and produce profits? With a selection process geared towards finding top performers, Aden's company is providing a powerful solution that solves many issues. "Each sales manager we talk to is thrilled - they get to clone their top people, in a 100% pay for performance model," began Aden. "They don't pay for the recruiting, analysis, selection or placement - they only pay when the employee begins to sell." And do most sales managers like the approach? "Oftentimes, we can't begin the process fast enough for them. This is a no risk, easy to implement process - it takes less than 7 days to develop the webinar, find the candidates, show the webinar, do the psychometric analysis and return the results. From there, a hiring manager can have a team selected in days." Wow, what a show! We brought you the best of the best today in building a new sales force, as well as growing your small business. Truly living up to our title as a business growth solutions show. If you know someone in sales, do them the favor of forwarding this show to them and helping them improve their business. Don't miss next week's episode on how networking can improve your business as we bring you three industry leaders who will help you learn the best methods and resources, as well as the most time efficient tools. Thu, 2 August 2007 ![]() On this episode of Uniqueness is Power, we go over the Free Resource Guide for Growing Your Startup Business to begin the show. Over the past 10 months, we have reviewed and vetted hundreds of candidates for the show, and have assembled a nice array of resources that can be relied on for start up businesses looking to grow. Some save money, some leverage your time or effort and still others increase business. From marketing tools to networking to daily costs, we have you covered. If you don't have time to network and still need to find reliable sources for new business needs, your search is over. We will soon have this guide available for download. This book is targeted to the small-medium business owner who wants to improve their own tactics and procedures in marketing - and comes highly recommended by us here at UiP. Our Business Booster believes it doesn't matter what stage your business is in, you always need something else, something more than you have at your fingertips right now. Whether you are a start up company and it"s your first, second or third round of raising capital, or you just need more clients, it seems hard to find the right resources to launch to the next step quickly. What if you have an idea and feel you can make millions (but you don't know what you need to get it started), and could get the knowledge you need? Want to know more - tune in as Atlanta Club President, George Ishee talks about CEO Space - a place where you can surround yourself with seasoned CEO"s and investors who can accelerate your ability to tap into a large pool of resources to get what you need quickly. We ended the show with another entreprenurial talent as our Unique of the Week. Back just after dot.com went bust, the web was finding a new way of going boom - and Michael Valverde and his team saw a need – and have not only met it, but exceeded it in the past 3-4 years. Chain Reaction Ecommerce has developed CRE Loaded, a unique, complete online store/shopping cart application. CRE Loaded delivers a host of powerful features in one stable Open Source application. Next week, we'll be on vacation, but will be seeking more great guests and ways to grow your business. We'll be back the 16th with more business growth solutions, on Uniqueness is Power. ====== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 26 July 2007 ![]() From low cost monthly marketing to getting great auto deals online, to winning friend, influencing people and growing your business, this episode of Uniqueness is Power really brought the goods. We began the show talking about increasing your personal visibility online, and what we've found to work well. Currently, when someone meets you, one of the first things they are likely to do, is google you. So, what happens when they do? If you don't come up in that first page, or there is old or worse, bad, information out there, it can reflect poorly on you. This is the first deep impression people get of you, in many cases. So, what can you do to make that impression as controlled and positive as possible? Listen in (or read the article) to find out more about how to be the top listing in Google, leverage Web 2.0 technology and network online like a pro. Our Business Booster for this week is Carrie Lubus, with Dale Carnegie, a name most people will recognize, and often assiciate with public speaking. Dale Carnegie has grown into much more than just the book, "How to Win Friends and Influence People." These days, a holistic effort roots in business growth basics and expands from there, offering people the knowledge, skills and practices they need to add tremendous value to their businesses. Next up, we had the Lending Tree for Autos - and just like when lenders compete, when dealers compete, you win! Our Unique of the Week, BestCarNow.com CEO Bryant Hinson, has very interesting 48 hour, reverse auction model, and bestcarnow.com has already latched onto Next week, we'll have on author John Jantsch from Duct Tape Marketing, Business Booster George Ishee from CEO Space and Unique of the Week, Michael Valverde from CRE Loaded. ====== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 19 July 2007 ![]() Is a 4 hour work week possible? Lee and Andy contend with this new book by Timothy Ferriss and find a lot of merit in the potential of many of the suggestions inside the covers. Well worth the read and very interesting to be sure. From outsourcing your life to learning how to work for awhile, then do a mini-retirement, the lessons are for the new age - this is not your father's retirement plan - and isn't what was pitched to you, either. We're working on Timothy as a guest upcoming. Rich Swier, an entreprenuer's best friend, runs the blog called Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking, focusing on young companies growing ideas into a business and businesses into a living. Pros and Cons is not only a Roger Waters album, a great resource for growing your new business. Be sure to check him out at: swier.blogspot.com for lessons, advice, historical anecdotes and his book of the same name. Our Business Booster was Jon Starets of Smart Reply. With over 2 million cell phones active in the American market (that"s a staggering 66% or more of folks who have phones) – it is no surprise to see many companies vying for control of the marketshares. Every demographic and age person uses of cell phones. They represent easy one-to-one communication, and they can do so in many ways as they capture both voice and data transmissions. For personal use, this means quick videos and sending pictures from events. But for retailers and direct marketers, cell phones represent a huge new opportunity. Smart Reply, a company who has been at this a lot longer than most, is making a significant difference in Voice Marketing, Text Messaging and more for their clients. Be sure to check out their services, which are economically priced and efficient, as well as eco-friendly. As Unique of the Week, we were joined in studio by Kim Gocke of portalhood.com - a very cool concept for HOA's or civic and non profit orgs, who seek to eliminate or at least subdue issues around having volunteers both produce content and upkeep that content for community bulletins, webpages and blogs. Before PortalHood, members of neighborhood associations and local organizations had to rely upon newsletters, phone calls, and face-to-face meetings to obtain information. Too often, however, the news was old (the event already occurred) before members received notice. Group websites, too, which everyone applauded in the beginning, gradually became as interesting as day-old bread. The announcement about the Christmas gathering remained through the summer because maintenance fell upon the shoulders of one or two individuals who were too busy to take the time. Everyone is busy, but community and group members must be informed. PortalHood satisfies the need to exchange timely news quickly and easily. Learn more about this great service. Thu, 12 July 2007 ![]() Wow, three guests for the first time in a long time - but that's the way of the future on Uniqueness is Power, as the business growth solutions show has added a new section - Authors, Bloggers and Speakers to the already powerful Business Booster, Unique of the Week and Host Tips sections. Right after Lee and Andy finished giving tips on how to grow your business online through blogging, we spoke with Harrine Freeman, author of "How to Get Out Of Debt, and get an A Credit Rating - for free" Knowing that credit ratings are at the heart of the first 2 years for a small business, we brought in Harrine Freeman as our first guest on the authors, speakers and bloggers section. Harrine knows firsthand how hard it can be to be in massive debt - and then break through and build a business. She's proof in the pudding - check out this interview for great tips on how to eliminate debt in your life.
Next up, we welcomed Sandy Richardson of the Gwinnett County Chamber of Commerce, who filled us in on how a CoC helps build a business, and in particular, how the Gwinnett Chamber is doing some things to stand out among Chambers, and help the Country live up to the motto "Success Lives Here." Our Unique of the Week, Radar Sign's Charlie Roberson, was a delight to speak with. With life rushing by us faster and faster - and who doesn't think that's the case - what difference does a few mph make? Well, for RadarSign, a few MPH slower is the name of the game, along with increased safety for pedestrians, animals, children, others. By alerting neighborhood speeders to slow down, the folks at RadarSign are making significant progress and helping lower traffic incidents in neighborhoods, office parks and industrial parks. ======= This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 28 June 2007 ![]() Hey good looking, whatcha got cooking? What a great show once again...mainly thanks to our great guests and the cool stuff we get to cover each week. Lee and I are having a blast meeting such wonderful people and getting the chance to introduce them to you. Our power duo this week was Business Booster Sarah Hathorn, with Illustra Image Consulting and Jodi Pierce, of Alphagraphics, the Unique of the Week. These two powerful and dynamic women will make you see your business and your own image in ways you might not before the show - lots of great info from both, and a real asset to have them on the show. You only get one chance to make a first impression and Sarah Hathorn will make sure you make the best first impression possible, from the time you meet her, going forward. A veteran of corporate America, she brings lessons learned there, and a candid, but kind approach to helping people improve their daily image they portray to others. From a 65 color palette designed directly for you, to more advanced courses, she does amazing things for clients. Jodi Pierce is not your typical franchisee, but she is typical of those at AlphaGraphics. Wielding a financial background running through Legg Mason, AGI, Ernst&Young as well as some banks, Jodi has grown the two Alphagraphics she owns to heights most people would have considered impossible. She uses high end technology and great customer service to do so. Perhaps the most interesting thing she said about her success "I am the ultimate consumer - and that makes me able to provide great solutions for those trying to market their products." Indeed! Working on various aspects, including design, printing and communications, Alphagraphics is truly unique among printers and capable on many levels - listen in for more info on how Jodi can help you, inspire you and make your business a better one. With locations in Buckhead and Duluth - they can help in Atlanta or around the country. Lee and I also cover in the first ten minutes a hiring solution for 1099 contract sales employees (those on straight commission.) One of the main issues for hiring managers in these companies is the low retention rate and even the quality of the hire. (two things intrinsically linked) Hire Golden has come up with a solution - that does search then does qualification in a unique manner, then does placement - with NO cost to the company UNTIL the new hire begins producing revenue. The company or hiring manager pays a percentage of the employee production each month, ongoing, as compensation. Most people we've discussed this with love the "found money" aspect to the model. Pay as you play is a very attractive way to build a 1099 sales force. We'll be taking a break next week and be back the week of the 12th, with our new section, Authors, Bloggers and Speakers...until then, We'll See Ya! ====== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 21 June 2007 ![]() This week, we tackle the ads that stink. No, we don't mean the ones that are just bad - we really mean those that stink - or at least smell. Tapping the olfactory memory hooks are a great way to bring on responses - think of Pavlov's dogs - but also are a way to bring on lawsuits for allergy provocation and more. Tune in while Lee and Andy battle it out - and figure out if there are more pros than cons. Sometimes referrals are welcomed, but all too often in lead groups, the leads are at best tepid, or lukewarm. It makes those early morning meetings hard to justify. But our Business Booster this week, David Alexander of Referrals 4 Life, has been on a mission to help educate, help improve and help actively turn your sales force's biggest lead source to referrals. Listen in and find out how your company can benefit from a man who has been, for over a decade, fueling all of his actions and massive business success, through referrals. Our Unique of the Week, Jason Syzdek from Jaymunda, really gets "it" - that proverbial and often elusive piece that eludes websites and online marketing. Working as the small - smedium - medium businesses best online friend, Syzdek and his talented, diverse crew make sure that you don't rely on the adage of "if you build it, they will come." Combining excellent design, linear creativity and high end functionality, along with a process that ensures both accountability and flexibility, Jaymunda is a breath of fresh air for smaller businesses who need both a website that looks good, that functions well and that drives traffic that converts to sales. It's that simple, folks. Check out Jaymunda's white paper, as well. ===== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 14 June 2007 ![]() Trillions and Trillions - that's a few up on Carl Sagen, and those are the dollars we spoke of last week with Boomers - now for the gender specfic market of Moms - another market worth knowing how to speak to, tap into and be in front of. Check out the opening foray into how to best speak to Moms - a general overview of what works (and what doesn't) plus some resources to tap further. Our Business Booster, Bob Hill of Hill Corporate Partners took an area of business we all dread (moving) and made it simple. Bob discussed how he functions as a buyer advocate and works to bring the best deals to the table. No matter your "relationship" with your landlord, someone like Bob almost always helps, and is paid by the landlord, not the client. So, why wouldn't you do this? No reason - just be sure to find a good agent - and to know what one sounds like - check out Bob on our show. In addition, Bob heads up a group of turnkey resources - from furniture, to telephone cable/systems to IT Infrastructure - who all help make your move a smooth one, and who work seamlessly together to make moves happen fast. Thu, 7 June 2007 ![]() Want to know how to market to the Baby Boomers, those folks who have the money and the time and the want to spend it? Take a listen to the first ten minutes of the show while Lee and I work out the inside secrets to reaching this coveted demographic. Next we turned to the Millenium kids, and those Gen Y and Gen X'ers who seeks interactivity above all else and who understand the internet is a tool that connects them to the rest of the world. With us, as Business Booster, was Carter Harkins, of CrowdAbout.Us, a module used to monitor and respond to podcasts in video and audio form, as well as the more common text posts. Finally, our Unique of Week is solving emissions issues, keeping school busses and interstate commerce running and increasing fuel efficiency. Ranging from consumer products for gasoline engines to closed crank high power diesel engines, World NCI provides a solution to the waste sent through the blow-off tube in an engine. Looking like a combo between a maraka shaker and a water bottle, with a tube attached, this device seperates the heavy and light hydrocarbons and sends the heavy (waste) to the bottom of the "water bottle" and the light (still good) back into the engine. Results have varied, but a 4-5% increase in gas mileage seems nice with gas prices staying at or above $3/gallon. Take a listen and see what YOU think. This week's show was a lot of fun and brought out some great information. Thu, 31 May 2007 ![]() With an extended interview, this week's dual agent guest - Bluetoad.com - played the role of both Unique of the Week and Business Booster - and did quite nicely in both roles. It's always funny how when that needs to happen, how well it works out. We began the show with some talk about what makes an idea in marketing "sticky" - there are six essential characteristics, according to Lee's research in the book "Made to Stick" by Chip and Dan Heath. An amazing book, this is one of those "must read" and "should understand" books for all marketers as well as those who want to do their own marketing. We encourage all folks who listen to this show to pick up a copy - you won't be sorry. From there, we picked up with our dual agent guest: Although we doubt print media is "going away" completely - there is certainly a lot to be gained in making publications available online. And having both can be beneficial in cost savings and increased value for advertisers, as well. After some research and comparing Blue Toad's services with the others out there who take pubs online, it turns out that perhaps there is such a thing as a free lunch - and even snacks, as well. Companies double up well as Unique of the Week AND Business Booster when people ask "how can you do THAT for so LITTLE - so there we were with Brad Wriedt as a guest who does it all. Turns out not only is there no set up fee (competitors charge 5k up to 50k), but the cost is $3 for uploads per page - where others charge 3-10 a page (Brad even offered our listeners a .25 cent discount - use the promo code - coupon code SYBL) So, there had to be a catch, right? Charges for streaming video or links or hosting or something? Nope - $3 (use SYBL and get it for $2.75) and Blue Toad does all the work. In addition, all ads are hyperlinked and so is email - giving advertisers in the publication a chance at double value, and through some new twists, even a ROI tracking option. Plus streaming video is included, so is Flash and other components competitors to Blue Toad charge (a lot) extra for. Drop Brad an email and check this service out - it will blow your mind - but not your pocketbook - and bring more value to your readers and your advertisers. Now THERE's a Business Booster that is truly UNIQUE! ==== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 24 May 2007 ![]() This week's show revolved around "who knows you" and how to get more people to do just that. We began the show with Yoshi Simms from The Publicity Formula, someone helping companies go beyond the normal scope of public relations, and take on the full world of publicity - she does work that includes helping clients get on radio, on TV, into public speaking engagements, and more. Plus, she coaches clients on how to do all that as well. Get in contact soon, or sign up for a teleseminar, and Yoshi will be showing you the way to public exposure that will grow your business quickly. Our Business Booster, Joe Beaulaurier, from PR Web, showed us how individuals can post their own materials onto the web, and how web press is much more widely received and spread about than the older models we've grown up with. Using case studies and examples, Joe outlined for companies ways in which the PR Web (self publish) and the PR Web Direct (publish with assistance) models work - and how people can make web press a helpful business tool. Then we were joined by Unique of the Week, Sherry Wheat of TeleSales - who walked us through how her company has placed an exciting, prosperous and distinct twist on the tried but sometimes tired industry of telemarketing. Full of tips and ideas, plus practical applications, this interview may help you revisit how to use telemarketing to improve customer relations and set appointments - plus more. Sherry showed how when this is done properly, it really brings a huge boost to business. ==== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 17 May 2007 ![]() When the latest article in AdWeek showed the ailing industry beseiged by assailants from around the world, saying advertising was one of five items in need of government regulation - along with air and water pollution, toxic waste and nuclear waste - well, Lee and I stepped up. Join us for the lively debate on whose fault this is, and how to fix it. Next, Stacy Land who is a Knowledge Management consultant, joined us to discuss what KM is - no one knows - but she did help ascertain how it can help a company - and who it can help. Stacy's commentary on this decade old (or so) field was insightful and intelligent - and, well, not suprising, well organized. She discussed how the current day companies are just now learning how to leverage the advantages of KM, and the challenges faced, even as more people realize the need. As our Unique of the Week, Allan Hess of www.airportbooties.com joined us. Neccessity is the Mother of Invention has never been truer. When security measures began to force the removal of shoes in the check in points, the health risks were at first somewhat overlooked, but the triad of partners with Airport Booties, saw the issue. After all, you have to cover the same ground as hundreds of thousands of others, many of whom were barefoot or could have been in a conduit like water or sweat. The unfortunate result is a breeding and transference area for viruses, diseases and contaminations. In a recent news report on ABC San Diego, 18 of 23 areas tested by a DNA lab found live bacteria, to include HIV, e-Coli and other nasty germs. So, Allan Hess and his partners built the non-slip, non-porous and very marketable booties. And they made it so the TSA would approve them. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/shoe_screening.shtm

Thu, 10 May 2007 ![]() After pinning down the top 9 trends in marketing today (not top 10 - we have to be unique - and not 9.5 cause we're not Gitomer) Lee and Andy turned to this week's Business Booster - Associate Partner of Bell Oaks, Eryn McHugh Emerich, who gave us the lowdown on recruiting. From why you'd want to use a recruiter to how the process works - and how it is different at Bell Oaks - Eryn laid down some essential points that all companies can learn from, and take away great advice about using an executive recruiter. For a company who understands and embraces the hard work that goes into finding the right person (not just A person) to fill your middle management to Exec level needs - check out the team at Bell Oaks. From volleyball in Venezuala to basketball in Berlin - and even golf in China - Dale brings exciting adventures to those who choose to come along. Soon, Dale is heading for Italy with the UNC Greensboro Basketball teams (men and women.) Plus, soon, the company is relocating to Seattle for a closer connection with a new partner in China - where those golf excursions (for athletes and maybe executives, soon, too) come from. Thu, 3 May 2007 ![]() Our show began with Lee and Andy working out how to begin marketing on a shoestring budget, or conversely, how to inexpensively augment your current marketing and advertising with low cost extras. As Business Booster, we were joined by 30 year photography veteran Kelly Mills, who shared with us how photography, when done well and with the proper eye and process, can improve your business. Using a tried method and being prepared for most anything, Kelly sees projects through from start (taking the photos) to finish (post production work that includes web ready and other graphics.) Listen in as Kelly reveals how his fine art background and ability to observe and listen really make the photos he produces come alive for the client, and work much better in a marketing setting. Also check out Kelly's newest exhibition, with Ilya Varcev - going on now through June 4th, at the West Egg Cafe at 1168 Howell Mill Rd, Atlanta. Also, be sure to check out our Unique of the Week, Dennis White - who brings over 37 years of experience to making sure your displays come alive with interactive and rememberable elements, at sales centers, trade shows, visitor kiosks, and more. Dennis runs Spectrum 4, a company with 20 years experience that has a few unique twists that set them apart outside their time in the business. First and foremost, Dennis outsources all his work to highly qualified, carefully selected craftspeople who all can do high end work faster and more effectively than he could do on his own in house. This means the customer gains in two ways - cost savings (due to lower overhead) and speed. Remember good fast and cheap? - Dennis covers the first two and stays more than reasonable on the third. In addition, outsourcing brings Dennis the ability to put his design background and marketing training to bear on all new projects - often at the first meeting. From napkin to finished product - oftentimes in less than 2-3 months. With work ranging from nuclear power plant displays to mega-churches, from visitor centers to trade show booths, Dennis has done a lot of great work. We recommend highly the work of both our guests - and recommend contacting them through the links above. ==== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 26 April 2007 ![]() From analyzing the hottest areas in which to launch a new business in today's world, to finding ways to finance them - we cover a lot of valuable ground in this show. We also look at the move towards making Atlanta a tech hub, or at least a recognized one. Lee and Andy examine various ways in which to identify the hot new markets - running the spectrum from kids to tweens to boomers, and then addressing bigger issues and pet love, along with the other growing markets. In our special episode on finding investors for any company seeking funding, we get to the heart of what you need to do. No matter if you are a startup, an established company seeking 2nd or 3rd round funding, or a company with a new division to launch, we brought top talent to the studio to answer the questions that have been keeping you up at night. Thu, 19 April 2007 ![]() Another show chock full of great ideas, growth tips and unique companies...but hopefully that's what you've come to expect. We were joined in studio by Business Booster Mike Schnell of Atlantic Gifts and by Mike Davis with My GA Doctor. Plus Lee and I covered information on how to leverage rewards programs and make them work for your customers, your company and even your employees. We also briefly discussed the incredible Centergy GA Power Resource Center. Sometimes it's a pen, sometimes it's a jotter, sometimes it's a wild and crazy new invention - but one thing is for sure - promotional items used to identify, brand a company and remind recipients of who gifted them, have been around almost as long as our country. With roots as deep as George Washington's election campaign, these items, sometimes called chotski's have grown and evolved from those first buttons Washington used to help with election. Mike Schnell of Atlantic Gifts covered with us unique ways companies are using and leveraging the plethora of new items available - while sharing some tips on how you can use them to improve your business. Our Unique of the Week is at the spearhead of a new idea in healthcare, providing a true revolution towards change in an industry. Mike Davis, from My GA Doctor, joined us to to follow up discussion from our mid-December Medical Services special. At that time, My GA Doctor was under trial and in development - it is now up and running, with 15 clinics and 22 docs in the northern side of Atlanta. With no co-pay, no deductible, it is perfect for people with HSA's, high deductible, catastrophic plans or no insurance at all. At $675 and $1850 for individuals and families, there isn't much like it out there. Thu, 29 March 2007 ![]() Learn how to organize all your data, get small business loans and funds and improve your credit score. It's all here in this week's edition of Uniqueness is Power, , where we bring you business growth solutions, help you save your bottom line and let out your innovative inner marketer. After covering the new 1% model with Thanks Again, and giving shout outs to Fritz Scheffel for "superman" type of work, we discussed brand loyalty and we tossed around the idea of how a small business IS it's brand - and began to explore what that means to you as a business owner. We'll need more time on that topic, perhaps on both of them... Stu Lustman with Southern Lending Solutions led of the show as our Business Booster. Aside from providing great cheer, Stu's knowledge of how to best grow and position your business is all encompassing. Our time with him proved he can help you in matters of funding, check processing (and credit cards, too) - and in the realm of leasing or purchasing equipment. Perhaps the two most important things we covered - personal credit is the crux of all small business loans for businesses younger than 2 years. Stu gave us a tip to increase credit scores anywhere from 20-30 points in less than a business quarter. Also, as a small business owner, understanding that the day to day is often do-able - but the one unseen big expense is what does a business in. Unsecured Lines of Credit and loans can help with this. TOBI - which stands for Total Office Business Intelligence - was created to make your life easier in the office, and bring together the morass of data collection programs available, into one centralized access point. Targeting the small and medium sized business, TOBI brings a full suite of capabilities to the table, and makes life easier. =========== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Thu, 22 March 2007 ![]() March 22 2007 show Lee and I began the show reviewing our awesome time at PodCamp Atlanta, and wondering what else would could have possibly have learned in a weekend? The presentation went well, and we made some awesome contacts - some you will soon meet on the show. We then took some time to examine what the most recent underhanded scam the RIAA is running could do to internet radio like Pandora and small (heck, even large) broadcasters. Lee and I, along with producer D, spent some time going round on this topic, and wondering what the effects could be? Go to the online petition and congressman letter writer for making your voice heard. From there, we brought in our Unique of the Week, InXpress - a shipping revolution for small businesses. When it comes to shipping, most people only think of 3-4 options - the Big Brown Truck - UPS, the Castaway Company - FedEx, the vacation ruiners - DHL, and snail mail through the USPS. Everyone has their opinions about which is the one for them, sometimes based in non-business reasoning. But when it comes to saving you, as a small business, money on shipping, InXpress does an amazing job of making sure you get the same efficiency you have always received, at lower cost. Check out the broadcast and let Dustin Hansen explain how it is done. ===== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. Sat, 10 March 2007 Welcoming Sherry Heyl and Amber Rhea, plus Rusty Tanton to the show was easy as they are all veterans of podcasting. Sherry walked through fire setting up SoCon07, and Amber and Rusty are the driving force behind PodCamp Atlanta. Join us as we discuss with Sherry Heyl how that and other aspects make the world go round in a potentially better fashion these days. Also check out Sherry's blog for her business - What a Concept - where she helps companies gauge what their competition is doing online in the blogosphere - and what those companies should also be doing in response. And if you are a PR Professional, be sure to learn more about her seminar on understanding the power of blogs. Or check out her appearance at the upcoming panel on PR and Blogging. Next up are the founders of the Georgia Podcast Network and organizers of PodCamp Atlanta, held this coming weekend at Emory. Be sure to check out the site, if you can't sign up and make the event. Spots left are limited, so go NOW. Lee, Adam and I are presenting at 4 pm on Saturday about how to explode your business through podcasting, and position yourself as an expert online. There are plenty of other interesting sessions, and address the beginner to the vet. The format is "un-conference" - where the event participants and attendees are the presenters, who lead a forum discussion more than anything else. Also, be sure to, if you have a podcast in GA, approach Amber and Rusty about syndication of your show on their network and website. Powerful place to be, for sure. Amber and Rusty have really learned to embrace this new format, and are helping dozens of people connect locally. Amber and Rusty's insights into how podcasts and blogs won't turn us into computer drones who don't leave our house is a healthy listen for those with such concerns. Thanks - remember, next week the live broadcast goes to Thursday night at 6 pm. So that's this Thursday from 6-7, with guests Robert Wilson and Stacy Hankinson - Robert will unveil how to let out your inner innovator, and Stacy shows how her business, Amercian Chocolate Company, has become the Unique of the Week! ==== This week's show is brought to you by Carroll/White, with hosts Andy Greider and Lee Kantor. (editor note - our bet is he can, as he has proven very helpful for some of our listeners already - thanks Fritz!) Sat, 27 January 2007 ![]() Wow, what an awesome show this past week! (If we do say so ourselves!) We were joined in the studio by Jeff Marlowe, owner of Zoom Design, Menuette and Times Squared - he has almost as many companies as he has charm and wit. That's to say, there's a lot to offer from Mr. Marlowe. First, Jeff shared with us some general, but very helpful, tips on restaurant website faux pas's and ideas to make your site a better one Write Jeff for more info on how he can assist you. Also, you can soon check out the upcoming article in our articles section. Jeff is also the creator and owner of Menuette - an interactive customer retention and product sales tool. To understand it, be sure to listen in, but essentially, this brings a level of convenience never before available, to your customer. Then there's Times Squared, a product which faces up to Open Table, and then smashes it into oblivion - much easier, more robust and less expensive - there's three things that all too often, don't go together. Featuring monthly breakfasts, with informative speakers at each, ABA allows members access to the website for Council Advisor commentary, and "Ask the Expert" features, immediately differentiating themselves from the typical networking crowd. Sat, 11 November 2006 ![]() Another amazing show - we not only show you how to harness the power of a press release, but we also take you to the best source, Matt Lohman and Knowledgestorm on what emerging trends such as blogs, wiki and podcasts are doing to the BtoB realm, and then speak to our Unique of the Week - as Jeff Brewer from Best Buy for Business joins us. Ok, to start out, Lee and I discussed what makes a good press release. Matt Lohman from Knowledgestorm joined us, and was a delight to have on the show. For those in the BtoB technology realm, you likely already know about Knowledgestorm, but if not, these folks are amazing and are for real. Acting as a portal of your information and lead generation source, they are all about helping the tech BtoB business thrive. Matt Lohman shared with us the information Knowledgestorm recently finished compiling about emerging media in the BtoB marketplace. From Blogs to Podcasts, Wiki to Tele-Seminars - they have all the data on what is working and what is not. Contact Matt at mlohman @ knowledgestorm.com Our Unique of the week was Jeff Brewer, from Best Buy for Business - a company which is moving ahead of the other big box electronic stores by coming at this from a whole different angle - seeing their targets as both consumers and as small business owners. Targeting businesses from 1-50 people in size, and working with many aspects of business, Jeff's take is that this is something he can hardly keep up with demand on - people want to be helped. Subsequently, he is also hiring consultants for the marketplace. What makes Best Buy for Business so unique is the large blend of partnerships and strategic alliances they have - from Geek Squad and Magnolia Home Theater in house to product alliances with HP to their innovative ways to virally spread word about each business - Brewer is developing a real community feel out of a big box store. Sat, 28 October 2006 ![]() Wow! What a GREAT show this past week, on Uniqueness is Power. We sure had fun, and we learned a lot as well. Beginning with making sure the safety is on, we picked up some valuable lessons. Download now to hear from the Sales Funnel Guru, George Ishee of Plumtree Marketing, as he discusses his unique sales tool that allows for cultivation of your leads - from low hanging fruit, to maturing fruit, to being able to re-serve and sell to in shop customers. Also, explore the amusing side of life, and what almost was death, with Ken Futch, who had to put a bullet through his head to begin to think straight about life. Let us tell you folks, now that he has - he is onto something. A superb keynote speaker and trainer, Ken is equally as delightful as a person and storyteller. To end our show, which seemed to focus on birthing (new leads), living well (Ken Futch) we moved to the next level - preparing for death - but in a whole new manner. The owner ofthe business formerly known as "Bonded" joined us and discussed how his business works. Essentially, he brokers life policies from those who no longer want to maintain them, to those who do. In an arena with just over 10 percent of all policies being paid out on, this an emerging industry which pays back high percentages, in a fairly timely manner. Take a listen and decide for yourself - but we find this to be a very interesting twist that ends up a win-win for sure. See ya next week! Comments[16] |
Sat, 21 October 2006 ![]() Today we had with us Erick Moore from Survey Executives, Susan Hawkins from Short and Sweet Studios and we even found time to cover some hot marketing trends and cool new places with unique offerings: We began the show talking about The Sustainable Dance Club which kicked off in Rotterdam's Find out more about this unique club at: http://www.enviu.org/cm/cm_index_site.html Next we examined Zopa.com (consumer to consumer lending), daylo.com (consumers buying, selling and exchanging services in their local area), fundable.org (aggregating consumer demand), but perhaps the coolest is YorZ, a community designed to help consumers refer candidates for great jobs and make money from it. Check out www.yorz.com We were luck enough to be joined by Erick Moore from Survey Executives, whose company serves a superb purpose in today's world - allowing direct contact with the levels of companies most people want to speak with, but are turned away by gatekeepers. Survey Executive's best customer is one that wants to do primary research on business people (CEOs, VPs of Marketing etc) for product development, market share, image surveys etc. Whether they need help with the entire project or simply need help reaching their target audience, Survey Executives can help. This week's unique company focus was placed on Short and Sweet Studios, of Decatur, GA. Co-owner, Susan Hawkins, joined us. Sat, 30 September 2006 ![]() On UiP we were all about keeping personal opinion out of your campaigns, getting a read on the face, going national with campaigns and cloning the best employees you have. Lee and Andy pondered the idea of why executives who allow personal opinion into their marketing often fail - keying in on the idea that "it isn't about you. The key advice is to make sure that you concentrate on what your consumer wants, and what they as a demographic do, and not on what you like or don't. Saying "I won't advertise on that radio station because I don't listen to that station" or "I won't do direct mail because I hate it," won't likely advance your business. Our first guest on the show was Naomi Tickle, and we found out just what's in a face. From reading a face to help close a sale, or to help pick the best person for an accounting job, face reading works very well. However these uses are much easier than using it to profile behavior. The UiP staff thought we may have solved the TSA's problems on finding the terrorists - but not just yet. Check out Naomi's newest book coming out soon, and order her other works, including the flash cards (all of which she was nice enough to send us for our edification, review and greater success - thanks Naomi) all available at www.thefacereader.com Next up, Lee and Andy took a quick look at the aspects of what it takes to run a national campaign - the crucial elements - and the relative costs involved. This one ought to raise a few eyebrows, and get some attention from those folks who want to go BIG but don't know what it takes. Out second guest was Jim Aden of Hire Golden, where science meets social and the best potential employees come out of a very thorough but efficient and quick screening process. Used for companies needing to fill a large number of similar positions quickly (a good example would be the large box store in need of managers or sales staff), the unique part of Hire Golden's process is in delivering a manner in which to clone your best employees - by analyzing performance top to bottom and making psychographic matches to help you find other equally adept at success in such a position. You can find out more from www.hiregolden.com or by contacting our show for more info - at andy@wgsratlanta.com This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Thanks to our guests and to Lee - it was a great show this week, and we had a great time exploring some synergistic manners in which to improve your employee hiring and recruitment, as well as up your sales at the meeting table. To your greater success! Andy Comments[19] |

Finally, we review the book "Beyond Emotion" in which we detail the uses of emotion during negotiation - in the board room, the bed room and everywhere in between.
